Now in its 3rd season of use, the canopy material has limbered up and the stitch holes are large enough for water to get in when we have steady rains. I'm going to lay it on the ground this summer and apply heavy "duck tape" down all the seams to see if I can restore the water tightness. I can do many shop tasks outside under my canopy, but only when it's not the rainy season because things can get wet under there. I would say that a dedicated builder could do the first 95% of the work in half of a 2-car garage and some outdoor canopy space. The last 95% has to be done with the wings on, and that means a hangar or barn;o) -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=400963#400963 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:08:42 PM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: How many of you are building/have built in your 2 car garage From: "Mark Roberts" Well Gents, that is encouraging. I have really enjoyed the barn, but for the next 2 years or so I will be looking at renting, so I will have to take what I can get. I will look into building something when we finally buy down there (supposing the world hasn't flung itself apart by then!) if I can't find a property that is set the way we'd like. BUT, I don't mind parking out on the drive way and building in the garage. I just wasn't sure there really IS enough space for the bulk of it. Once it's ready to assemble, I can see a hanger would be best. Thanks fellers! Well, today another long held dream came true as my lovely wife became the first passenger I personally have flown in "RE-PIET"!! We have tried four or five times lately to find a "weather window" but with this kooky weather, it just wasn't happening. Until tonight! Absolutely perfect evening. Zero wind, perfectly smooth a few clouds lingering to reflect the sunset colors and about eighty degrees on the ground. RE-PIET took off and climbed with Marci and ten gallons of fuel almost like I was alone and it didn't feel any different, except that I have to keep a little more power through the flare to keep from dropping out. Flew for about forty five minutes, followed the Licking River south and watched some farmers plowing, buzzed some fields then flew over our house and smoked our daughter while she jumped on her trampoline. It really was awesome. Here are a couple of pics, and I'm posting a video on YouTube which shows some pretty evening scenery and the takeoff from the front pit. The video will probably be viewable in a day or two. I don't have a link yet, but it's titled. "Pietenpol RE-PIET first flight with wife!" Keep building, it's worth it!! From: "taildrags" That's it. That's why we love these old airplanes. They are time machines of the best sort... they take you back to a place and time that are just like what you describe, every time they leave the ground. Other than the reference to a video, you could have told this story in 1929. My guess is that some folks in Cherry Grove, Minnesota did, said, and felt the same things you did. Well, OK... it could be argued that the modern trampoline wasn't built until 1936, so maybe I used a little too much artistic license there ;o) -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=400975#400975 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message pietenpol-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Pietenpol-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/pietenpol-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/pietenpol-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
