It would be better to have your exhaust fan on the floor. The way it is, you
are having the overspray climb up to the ceiling and cross the freshly
painted parts. The trick is to let the overspray fall down near the floor
(gravity) and let it exit the booth without being deposited on anything else
except the floor (pulled up and across a wing will cause dry overspray).
This also allows the air to move across the booth near the floor and not set
up swirls and currents. In my paint booth for cars, the intake is in the
ceiling and the exhaust fan is in the floor in the middle of the booth so
the spray goes under the car and out. Always paint in the direction of from
the intake to the exhaust to minimize overspray.
Also be sure to stick a scrap piece of fabric (about 8"x8") over the back of
the box fan in the center over the motor. This will keep most of the
overspray out of the fan motor. In Harold's homebuilt Pietenpol Paint Booth,
our first box fan lasted about a month without the fabric and the second
lasted through painting 5 Pietenpols.
My 2 cents

Barry, this is great advice and easily accommodated (I used slip fittings
for the PVC that secure the fan and the two air filters). I hadn't thought
about the pattern of overspray. Instead I was thinking about drawing in
cooler air and exhausting warmer air. Cheers, Ken
