I'm thrilled you'll be able to fire up Wednesday morning and start your journey. Add 30 minut es at each fuel stop for onlookers and questions. (maybe more with your b eautiful plane!) Your catch of loose prop bolts on your condition inspection was just fantas tic! That is a good reminder to all of us that we should check our prop bolt torque more often than not, especially living in areas of the country that experience wide variations in temperature and humidity. That is really high PSI you're running on your clincher tires. I'd like t o hear more about that at Brodhead. I'm running about 25psi on my motorcyc le tires. Maybe there is something different about your setup/ clinchers. Interesting! You'll feel a great sense of satisfaction approaching Brodhead by air inste ad of car for the very FIRST time ever after all of your years coming. On e thing that might surprise you is that from certain angles, Brodhead airpo rt is difficult to spot! Trust your Texaco map, gps, and gut and remember that the airport will pretty much look like everything else! Mike C. Should you buy an expensive or cheap tire? What does an expensive tire do that a cheap tire doesn't do? If you are comparing apples to apples (Same size and ply) then your decision should be based on how you use your plane. A Cessna 150, being used at a flight school, doing 100 touch and goes per week can go with a good cheap tire like the aero trainer. If you fly the Rolls Royce of the air (A Vtail Beechcraft Bonanza) and you only use it to go on trips to the spa every other weekend (4 Takeoffs and landings per month) then you should get a high quality (and cost) tire like a Flight Custom III. Basically what you get with an expensive tire is superior weather and age resistance. They will last longer on a calendar dates with moderate or low use. An Aerotrainer and a Flight Custom III will last about the same amount of landings if they are used frequently. An Aero Trainer will not last near as long tied down on the ramp in the weather as a Flight Custom III. Key elements of tire life. Air pressure, exposure to chemicals, sun and weather exposure. Keep them inflated to the right pressure, don't let them soak in gas or other chemicals, and keep your plane in a hangar preferably that does not flood. As the tire ages, the cheaper tire will start to harden and wear faster than the more expensive tire. Aviation retreads actually are a very good deal and have an excellent record. They have a carcass that has been proven and are inspected before reuse. Dresser tires sells them. I would not hesitate to buy a set. On my Old Cessna 150 I went through two sets of Aerotrainers, lots of touch and goes. On my Vtail I have a set of Flight Custom IIs that have been on for 8 years and still have a lot of life in them. Blue Skies, Steve D. Of course for Oscar it is really important to look good. Remember "It is not important how you feel, it is how you look that is important." When I replace a tire I also replace the tube. Then I keep the old tube around so I have a spare one. This is my insurance policy that I will never need it, cause as sure as I don't replace it or don't keep the old one near by I will get a flat. As far as the tires go, I think I would elect to install the other landing gear and spoke wheels you showed us the other day :) It would look very cool with them. -------- Scott Liefeld Flying N11MS since March 1972 Steel Tube C-85-12 Wire Wheels Brodhead in 1996 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=405155#405155 ________________________________ Message 10 ____________________________________ Time: 07:27:15 AM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Life is good! Under 1000 ft 90 % of flight and diving down to read water towers to figure out what town I was flying over. The most memorable flights of my life. Hope to repeat it in a couple of years.
