Now you know why I sent the second photo! :-) I asked him about those things. He wasn't worried about his own limberness. His answer about passenger access---With a little sideways smile," That's not my seat." One thing's for sure, he'll never have to refuse the fat lady. :-) One day, though, he may regret the shortness of cabane and that solidness of wing. We do, after all, become less limber with age. The pics are the latest taken but it's now completed and varnished. I'm waiting on an AS&S order of nuts and bolts. Some work to do on the hinge itself. Then on to the right panel. Clif Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious. -Brendan Gill > > Clif: C-GHBD needs a centersection cutout or a flop. Just finished up my Piper L-4 ribs using T-88. Cover the rib jig using a piece of 3 to 4-mil plastic Polyethylene Sheeting as sold in Home Depot or Lowe's in rolls. The T-88 will not stick to it and it is see through. Very simple and very low cost. -------- Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=406599#406599

Reading about all the various engines in Pietenpols reminded me of a conversation in a lumber yard in Lake Elmo, MN, in the late 1980s. I was buying marine plywood and hardwood for an engine mount in a Pietenpol and a couple guys in the lumberyard were familiar with the Pietenpol. They new a guy in the Minneapolis-St Paul area who had a Pietenpol with a modified inverted Ford Falcon six cylinder engine. Perhaps someone from the Minneapolis-St Paul area could confirm if this machine actually existed. Ralph in SD

This was an idea that I heard here, I used RC plans clear protector. Buy it at any hobby store or on-line stores like Tower Hobby. I stapled it over the rib plans on a backed plywood flat board. There was a modified Pietenpol built here in Oregon that was powered by a Salmson radial engine. It flew successfully for a number of years. It was built by Russ Stewart and was originally licensed as an Oregon homebuilt and carried one of the metal Oregon aircraft license plates. In 1948, it was registered by the CAA as an experimental. It is believed that this was the first aircraft in the country registered in the experimental category. If anyone has any information regarding this plane, I would appreciate hearing from you. Well, this one is British, not French, but it does have a BMW motorcycle engine on the (loooong) nose. Then again, it hasn't flown yet - so it doesn't count... yet. http://on.fb.me/18sB2MC Dan wrote: > Some French guys put a motorcycle engine on a Piet... Wish I could find > that link...
