Try a heat gun. Also might be enough heat in your wify's

The previous builder used masking tape as anti chafe tape along the ribs
before fabric covering. It has been on there a while and is proving very
difficult to remove. I have used the edge of a chisel to remove the tape
from the ribs but am having problems removing it from the aluminium leading
edge. I also have the remnants of the poly brush used to adhere the fabric
to the leading edge.
Any suggestions?

WD-40 website claims it will remove old tape of all kinds. I have heard it from
various sources in the past but not tried it personally. It is in the bylaws
that every garage has some.

I am looking around some at the various radios, (handheld), intercoms, (portable)
headsets, etc. What I am struggling with is what to look for in each and how/can
they all be connected. I am interested in the Yeasu FTA-720 handheld
and a simple 2 place portable intercom. (like the ACS sample) I am also looking
into ANR type headsets. I just don't know how or if the handheld, intercom,
headset and PTT can all be plugged in to one another. Perhaps some rewiring would
be in order? Keep in mind I have no electrical system on board. Any advice
or recommendations would be appreciated.

I would second the comment about trying the citrus oil based solvents. The active
ingredient is limonene, which is a by-product of the processing of citrus
(lemon, orange, grapefruit, etc.). It's supposed to be a pretty good solvent,
is safe to use, and of course it smells better than MEK ;o)

Remember guys, MEK is bad stuff if absorbed into the skin or breathed.
Treat it with respect. I myself only use it until my kidneys hurt and then
I stop. Wouldn't want to hurt myself.
It is a super effective solvent in most cases. But I really pay more
attention when I open it, wear gloves and make sure I don't breath the
fumes. I keep it out of easy reach, Don't want a grandkid taking a bath in
it.

I have no electrical. Have intercom and handheld mounted. Just started
using PTT switch. Very necessary. Will send pics soon and model #s. hard
to communicate, though. I want to get bigger mic muffs.

I still have a setup that I used in the cub I owned 14 years ago. It s a yaesu
hand held with a yaesu remote ptt switch that can be velcroed to your stick. One
set of cables from the ptt has that unique (male) yaesu plug that goes to radio,
and the other set of cables has the standard size female ends for your headset.
For anr headset. Im going with the Bose qc2 or 15, and then add the microphone from www.uflymike.com . You can find the headsets on craigslist for less than 200 bucks usually and think the mike setup is another 250.00 .
For less than 500 youve got a setup that would normally cost you1200 or so.
Another neat setup I used while intructing in cubs was a ptt box that had a
spring loaded three way switch. One way was for atc, the other was for the student
and the spring loaded neutral position was off. Student had the same. The
great part about it was that there was no finicky squelch. Your mike only became
"hot" when the switch was activated. Someone else wired it but have lost
contact with them. Maybe someone here with electrical knowledge could post a wiring
diagram of it.

I personally use a PS engineering portable intercom connected to an ICOM handheld
with Lightspeed Zulu headsets in my Rans S-12. Just my $.02 that it can

Hi Guys,
Surprisingly, our local version of Home Depot (Bunnings Aerospace!) had
some Goof Off. I bought some of that and a small bottle of De-Solv-It, a
citrus desolving solution. The Goof Off worked well, even for the Poly
Brush but is going to take some time. Much better than MEK through.
The De-Solv-It worked well with the masking tape but didn=92t touch the
Poly Brush. Smelt nice though Oscar!
Thanks for the response=92s looks like we have a solution (???) to the
problem.

I'll soon be tackling my build and have decided to start with the fin and rudder.
Should I get the wood from A.S. or elsewhere? I'm just not sure how complete the
A.S. 'kits' are.
For example, their fin and rudder kit includes:
3 x 02-341 CAPSTRIP 3/4" X 1"
4 x 02-58114 CAPSTRIP 5/8" X 1-1/4"
I know this doesn't include glue and other hardware, so what else is needed, aside
from the above?
I live very close to their Canadian HQ so have the luxury of being able to drive
a short distance to pick everything up.
Apologies if this seems like a remedial questions. It's all new!
