In addition......One of my prop making books by Eric Clutton explains that a true scimitar prop has the grain of the wood positioned fore and aft rather than up and down (as seen from being mounted on engine). Each thin lamination is also bent into that position as well while laminating. (Using a 4 x 4, similar to prebending cap strips). This allows more flex and allows tip to go to a lower angle of incidence when under load, during climb. variable pitch with no moving parts. No idea how affective it really is though. Much more difficult to built too. The current wave of scimitar are really semi-scimitars. Because of the same shape but different grain direction, they are about 35% as effective in changing pitch as the scimitar. Above all paraphrased from "propeller making for the amateur". Great book. -------- Paul Donahue Started 8-3-12 do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=415857#415857

    Subject: Ash board placement
    From: "aviken" <aviken@windstream.net>
Someone please clear this up for me. According to my plans, the rear ash cross brace marking is in the center of the board. I temporarily placed it in that position and measured the other cross struts from there back , and they seemed to work out right. The next question is the front ash board is marked a little to the rear of center. Is this just bad aim in drawing the plans, or is there a reason for these two markings? Subject: Extended Fuselage Question
    From: "GrantZ" <grantz5906@aol.com>
Construction is progressing well. Five ribs built and turning out about 1.5 per day. I am reviewing the supplemental plans and laying out fuselage sides. On the extended fuselage, how does one determine where the "cross struts" (go between the sides) are located? No dimensions for these on the supplemental plans that I can see. With the added length the dimensions from the original fuselage clearly won't work. I can see where two inches were added in the first and third bays but this does not help locate the struts. I would think these locations are critical as they determine landing gear, lift strut, cabane, etc attach points. What am I missing?
