I doubt that long longitudinal concave tooling marks from front to back on the blade surface do anything to improve prop performance. In fact they may induce more surface drag do to the fact that they are generating non-directed turbulent boundary layers that have energy and are then dissipated into the air flow causing boundary separation degrading blade performance. If this was such a big performance improvement, then why have the top propeller makes been using and designing this feature on all there propellers. Simple, it has a negative effect with no performance gain. With all do respect .... I think it is a little snake oil selling here. Either way, I was buying a Cloud Car prop. and either way, I was going to buy it in the rough and finish it myself, so I am not sure what Jay would be gaining from selling me said snake oil. I would be willing someday, to swap my propeller onto another Pietenpol using a smooth Cloud Car prop. and do a direct side by side comparison. Could very well be a bunch of hooey. However, if needed, a good sanding and re-finish would not be all that big of a deal down the road. If God is your co-pilot...switch seats. I wanted to stay with straight blades and get a few more inches pitch than my 66X29. he had a 32 or 33 and a 34 pitch. I think both as in the rough were about 72" long. he sold me one worth the money and I will most likely cut it to around 68" long to start with. maybe even 70" if it looks like it will clean up well there and balance out. and can trim length if it proves to load it up too much a little at a time. since I fly from a pretty short and very un-forgiving strip I don't want to get too aggressive with pitch, but the one I have just gets me out really well but immediately have to throttle back quite a ways to avoid over speeding and I want to do little experimenting with a second one.
