My wife and I are planning a trip to Indianapolis In. next weekend to visit her
relatives. Are there any piet builders there that might not mind if I took a
      look, and some pictures?

      Oscar,
One other thing to keep in mind, when doing your "what if" comparison, is that
with steel tube construction, the joints are welded, with very little weight attributed
to the welds, whereas with aluminum tube construction, the joints are
gusseted and riveted. The weight attributed to the gussets and rivets should
be taken into account in your theoretical calculations. In the end, I wouldn't
      anticipate a significant difference.

      Bill C.

I think since you are only about an hour and a half away, we will drive up
      on Saturday for the day.

My steel tube fuselage is currently in Florida, and it weighs in at 43.2 lbs. it
was built to the Flying and Glider Manual plans, no longer or no wider.

I should have it back here (in Athens, GA) this spring and you are welcome to come
by once it gets here. I will keep you posted.
