      Oscar,

It certainly appears that way, doesn't it? Well, it must be because one of
      three reasons.

      1) Because the photo was taken from a few steps a'starboard.
      2) Because I had possibly browsed (can't recall) the "papers", finding some
exclusive instructional information, i.e. (sashaying of engine mount).
      3) During the prop-carving process, I accidentally gouged too deep on one s
ide, so that was my way of compensating so the sucker would fly straight.

      Oscar, you're slipping a bit.
Looks like you missed a few other details.
For instance, the horizontal stabilizer also appears to be off-center. As is the
"center section" of the wing, and even the landing gear legs.

It's almost as though the photo wasn't taken exactly on the centerline of the plane.

Yep. Been once before and there's a TON of great beers, in a GREAT venue!

A couple of options. Meet there, drink, come see the firehouse and drink some
more. Meet at the firehouse, drink and then go there and drink some more!

What ever, how ever is cool. Give me a shout, 423 580 1383. Looking forward to
      meeting you!

I figured it was just the camera angle, but every time I looked at it and mentally
drew a line through the center of the radiator down to the center of the lower
edge of the firewall, the engine looked cattywampus. Thanks for the clarification.

Well, on the way over to Brodhead from Poplar Grove last year, with Jack Ph

      Hi All,

I acquired a Piet that's taking up valuable space right now. I'm looking at parting
it out. I have an A-65 mount/cowl, 3 piece wings, cub gear, fittings, and
1.5 Corvair cores, plus lots of assorted odds and ends.

The back end was sticking out of an open hangar here in Washington State, so you
can imagine what the vert/and aft end fuse looks like.

Let me know what you need, and I'll send pictures. I'm looking at trying to get
a Cavalier SA102.5 in the air so, I'd be interested any trades to help me toward
that end. Always willing to help another piet get in the air! I'll be driving
to San Diego in April if anybody along the way needs something.

      Thanks,

I just ordered the eyebrow plans from the cub club and I am not a member. I just
told them I am working on a pietenpol and they said OK. Gardiner

Well, guess who is now running the Cub Club? Our own illustrious John
Hofmann! John has a J-3 Cub in addition to his Pietenpol.

| Subject: | Willys jeep pietenpol engine maybe? |

A few months ago I voiced my idea to try a jeep 134 flathead motor for a power
source for my pietenpol project. I know it has been hashed over before and I
got a few thumbs up and a few thumbs down. I decided to keep my mouth shut until
I had a little more info. So I overhauled an engine and built a prop hub,
and today it got it's first prop start. I had started it earlier with the flywheel
on using the starter because it was too tight to prop. After about ten
minutes run in time, I re-installed the prop and finally got it running...
It is swinging an old junk wood prop that was on a cub or champ and it seemed
to have no problem. Now I have only ran it about half throttle so far but I hope
to rig a tach on it and see what it will turn up static. More later.

I will try to link the youtube video , but if that doesn't work and you still want
to see it go to youtube type in Kenny crider and check out my channel
      video two.

If you go north to Bayfield Wi there is a County Hwy that runs over to
Madeline Island its only 3 mi. but kids living on the island have to go

      Ken;

Watched the video. That is very interesting! The engine seems to run very smoothly.
Sure does look tight though, and you just about wore out the starter getting
      it to fire up ;o)

By the way, I found a dyno simulation for the L134 engine that produced the power
and torque curves in the graph that I've attached. It may be possible to make
this work, just looking at the curves. At "normal" prop speeds of 2200-2300
RPM, the power looks to be about 36-37HP (solid red curve). Run it up to 2400-2500
and it climbs into the 40-42HP range, which is comparable to the Ford
"A" engine. Run it at 3000 RPM with a ground-adjustable 68" Warp Drive like
the Corvair uses and it might put out 50HP.

The dry weight of the engine is given in the Willys specs as 365 lbs. but people
on the Jeep CJ chat sites say it weighs about the same as a small-block Chevy.
The Ford A engine weighs about the same, I think... specs that I found show
weight of engine and transmission to be 475, so the engine alone should be about
the same weight as the Willys.
