Well, it must be because one of three reasons. 1) Because the photo was taken from a few steps a'starboard. 2) Because I had possibly browsed (can't recall) the "papers", finding some exclusive instructional information, i.e. (sashaying of engine mount). 3) During the prop-carving process, I accidentally gouged too deep on one s ide, so that was my way of compensating so the sucker would fly straight. From: "aviken" A few months ago I voiced my idea to try a jeep 134 flathead motor for a power source for my pietenpol project. I know it has been hashed over before and I got a few thumbs up and a few thumbs down. I decided to keep my mouth shut until I had a little more info. So I overhauled an engine and built a prop hub, and today it got it's first prop start. I had started it earlier with the flywheel on using the starter because it was too tight to prop. After about ten minutes run in time, I re-installed the prop and finally got it running... It is swinging an old junk wood prop that was on a cub or champ and it seemed to have no problem. Now I have only ran it about half throttle so far but I hope to rig a tach on it and see what it will turn up static. More later. From: "taildrags" By the way, I found a dyno simulation for the L134 engine that produced the power and torque curves in the graph that I've attached. It may be possible to make this work, just looking at the curves. At "normal" prop speeds of 2200-2300 RPM, the power looks to be about 36-37HP (solid red curve). Run it up to 2400-2500 and it climbs into the 40-42HP range, which is comparable to the Ford "A" engine. Run it at 3000 RPM with a ground-adjustable 68" Warp Drive like the Corvair uses and it might put out 50HP. The dry weight of the engine is given in the Willys specs as 365 lbs. but people on the Jeep CJ chat sites say it weighs about the same as a small-block Chevy. The Ford A engine weighs about the same, I think... specs that I found show weight of engine and transmission to be 475, so the engine alone should be about the same weight as the Willys. -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=419861#419861 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/dyno_runa_1percent20small_894.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message pietenpol-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Pietenpol-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/pietenpol-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/pietenpol-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
