Subject: | advice on trim mechanism |
hello all. I am incorporating the fairly common method of relieving stick pressures
via a couple of cables and springs/bungee to the walking beam. what I havent
seen is a way for both the pilot and front pax to be able to use the trim
system. was thinking of having
a front and rear disc with cables wrapped around both and continuing to the top
and bottom of walking beam.
has anyone done this? will it work? any advice?
thanks Paul

Hey Paul,
I'm sure that something could be designed to work with a little thought. I have
been thinking about your question for several hours and I am not sure why you
would even want or need one in the front cockpit. Piets are soloed from the
rear seat, that being said, if someone were flying it in the front seat then
I would only hope that there is a qualified pilot in the back seat to adjust the
trim. The second thing that comes to mind is that we as builders should be
concerned about any extra weight we build into the planes. It only takes away
from our useful load no matter how minor the weight gain.
All that said, I'm sure someone on the list with a similar trim system would have
some useful ideas for the front hole. My trim system is not like any other
Piet I have seen. It is copied from a pre-war T-craft. It could be made to
work from both cockpits without a lot of extra work.

I have electric trim. Aside from Scott's good advice, it could be easily
adapted for co-pilot operation. Only thing is...
...I have never used it!!
