      Hello folks,

As you heard I am trying to help a new Piet-building friend from Argentina,
Mr. Fernando Risso. He wants to be a contributing member of the Matronics
list but has been unable. Are there any Spanish-speaking fellows out there
that can contact him, and help him accomplish this?

      Thanks in advance,

                Hello Fernando,

It is my pleasure to know you now. Of course I would be very happy to answe
r any questions you might have about Pietenpols or their construction. Do y
ou know Santiago Morete (moretesantiago@yahoo.com.ar) from Santa Rosa, Arge
ntina? He is almost finished with his Ford-powered Pietenpol. He is a very
good friend of mine and has visited me twice here in the U.S. He has been
to Brodhead on two occasions now, the latest time just last year. He has cr
eated, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and exquisitely- built Piet
enpols out there. He is a very kind man and I am sure he would be very glad
       to help you also.

I always wanted to attend Sun-N-Fun, but cannot attend this year. If I can
be of any service, please ask as many questions as you desire. I will alway
s be glad to answer to the best of my ability.

      Sincerely,

      Dan,

I wish I could help. Even being from So. CA I don't know a lick of Spanish.

I also don't know anything about those mags. I think if he can still get parts
for that mag that it would work for him.

Thanks for helping this fellow out.

      Cheers,

         Tools,
Could you be more specific about your experience as I haven't seen
such bargains. Please point me in the right direction.

| Subject: | Some workshop ideas...... |

      Hello good Piet-ple,

A friend of mine is setting up his hangar/workshop to build an RV-7. He has already
built the empennage but that was in his basement. We were in touch about
workshop ideas so I thought I'd pass along a few of my ideas here as well - for
      what it is worth:

      1) Storage bins I have 50 identical/interchangeable Sterilite storage bins. (I
would have more like 80 if I would do it again.) The trick is having the right
size, not too big or too small. This way all the like items go together in
each bin. Example ALL my screwdrivers are in one bin EVERY ONE. I dont have to
keep looking around to find screwdrivers cause if it aint in that drawer, it
aint in my shop. Also, when I clean up I just grab all the screwdrivers and dump
them in the drawer really fast and WAY better than hooks/pegs/shadow boards,
      etc..

      2) EVERYTHING except the workbench is on wheels and in my case on the chrome/open
racks from Costco or Storables. This way I can move things around depending
on what I am doing and how I have to arrange the fuselage/wings/tools, etc.
I have bins on the shelves below each moving cart that contain stuff related
to that cart. Example, my METAL cutting bandsaw and metal press brake are on
the same cart. All the 4130 pieces and press brake dies are on bins on that same
cart. Similar, all the WOOD tools (bandsaw, chop saw, drill press) are on another
cart, and GRINDING/SANDING are on another.

      3) I store all the COMPLETED parts in the crawl space above the garage. This lets
me keep only the parts I am actively working on in the shop.

      4) I store as little raw material as I can. I have some sheets of metal and some
partial sheets of various a/c plywood but I dont have the room to store more
so I buy only what I need when I need it (Lowes is open till 9:00 or so every
      day!)

The shop has evolved over the past seven years but many of the items I list above
have been things that I have found to help.

check out Eastwood welders. ive got their mig and ac/dc tig. im happy with them.
most comfortable with my oxy acety setup though. its just as Keri Ann described.
if getting a tig I would make sure it can weld aluminum and stainless. Im
sure Eastwood welders are made in china, but Eastwood is a reputable U.S. company
with very good support and various videos for their welders.
