It's all about experience. The friend that I worked for 20+ years never used
iron.
He probably recovered 30 plus planes. Days when planes sat outside. For peop

Recover one or two planes, iron is probably the right tool. There are heat g
uns out there that have precise heat control. But still no replacement for e
xperience. Louie

you have to be careful. It can burn a hole in a heartbeat. Using the IR the

Steve,
Just wondering why you felt compelled to experiment with the heat gun after being
advised "emphatically" against doing it?
In short (as was stated before), it is simply a bad idea. Here's a direct quote
from the Ceconite web page:
"Because calibrated temperatures are important to the shrinking process, however,
you shouldn't use a heat gun, which gives you no control."
Trying something because some guy did it on YouTube isn't a very wise way to do
things.
Rather than being in the tradition of the EAA, it seems that your actions are the
opposite. Learning from the mistakes of others, and paying heed to their warnings
is the wise way to "experiment."
