I think the Pietenpol was removed from the list of ITAR controlled good some
time ago.

Not going to make SnF, but would be interested to know if there will be any promising
new designs there for a small radial compatible for a GN-1/Piet..other
than the Rotec design. It'll be interesting to see what crops up w/in the next
decade or so in that department, whether there will be a copy of an old 30's
design,etc.. (lots of CNC machining going on)..
Happy w/my little bullet proof A-65, but I can see the switch to a neat li'l radial,
if reliable enough for x-countries

Maybe a touch of safety wire between the 2 clamps (or maybe all 3) would
be good to reduce the stress of =9Cwhat-if?=9D the next time
you fly.

Fellow Pietenpolers,
While doing all my springtime preliminaries, maintenance items etc. to
get the Loensloe airplane ready for flight, I decided to re-make and
replace some of the steel tube components that connect and hold the
radiator hoses in place. The old ones were getting corroded on the
inside pretty bad along with the interface surfaces that come in contact
with the rubber radiator hoses. As a matter of fact I had a pretty
difficult time pulling apart some of the hoses off the joints due to
rust.
So today I was test-running the engine, all set to fly it right after
that. After about 2 minutes at full power, while standing along side the
pilot's pit, there was a loud "POP" and I got a sudden shower of
radiator water on my head. I immediately pulled the throttle back and
turned off the mag. While my head was still dripping, I walked around to
the engine and found the hose had popped off the newly-made fitting (the
one in this photo).
I have come to the conclusion that the reason was that while I was
assembling all this I got the bright idea to use Aviation Gasket Sealer
on the joints. I am pretty sure this stuff reduced the friction under
the hose clamps and with a little pressure, the assembly let loose.
I have deliberately NOT put this on the Piet Facebook sight, for fear of
retribution from my wife.
So in my efforts to be "more safe" I inadvertently made it "less safe".
Sometimes plain and simple is the best.

Oscar,
Are the data plates specific to the AirCamper, or Pietenpols in general? Could
I use it for my SkyScout?
Thanks,

Scout as well. For the life of me though, I can't seem to find where the coolant
hoses connect to the Continental A75. Do you happen to know? ;o)

It's good to hear that another Piet will soon be taking flight, and it's also
a reminder that only a fraction of the builders out there are on this list
or maybe they are, but they are inactive or just lurk here. A nice, healthy population
of low 'n' slow experimenters continues to keep the tin-benders and
fast glass in check.
