Here is a copy of my first 3rd class medical and sign-offs. It appears the process
has changed some. Does this make me an old Fart? Good luck for you guys going
after ratings and tailwheel sign-offs. I can't remember what the Cessna 150
rented for but the J-3 Cub set me back $5 an hour plus I had to keep it full
of gas@ 21 cents a gallon. Times change. In my world here it is a real challenge
to find a tailwheel airplane to rent. I bought the Luscombe for $1500 in pretty
good shape, flew it 1200 hours and sold it for $2500. Wish I had it back
:-(

I've mentioned that I've been coaching a friend and colleague in tailwheel technique
in my Air Camper. He does a better job than me! So, time to let him loose!

a C150 with instructor and ground school
for a total of $740.

Jerry,
I'm seven years older than you. I started taking lessons when I was 15 from an
old Navy pilot in an Aeronca 7AC. Boy could he cuss and bruised my legs many
times with the stick! The plane AND instructor was $5.00 per hour, Hobbs. I worked
all week, 4 hrs a day, in a bike shop for $10.00 for the week! Spent half
on Saturday, saved the rest for school clothes. Took my flight test in a 172
($10.00/hr wet) when I was about 18 or 19 (have to look that up) and passed just
fine. Got married at 25 and did not fly again till about 45 when I bought a
PA-12 Super Cruiser with a 150 Lycoming. Fun plane! It was stolen by two jail
escapees and wrecked after one year and took three years to get repaired. Memories!
