Hi all,
I=99ve just returned from a trip to find the sad news about Dick. He

Turned out they needed to be completely torn down and rebuilt due to some

I agree with others as to the time/money issues. Maybe the important thing is seed-planting
and inspiration to youth at an early age. I caught the dream of the
Piet when I was 17. Right then I knew I would work at aligning the stars so
one day I could start building and have half-a-chance at finishing. I got that
chance at age 46 to begin the journey. It takes a special kind of person to
be able to complete a task of this magnitude. Vision...., fortitude.....perseverance,
not to mention the underlying foundation of stability, health, and finance.
That is why if you stop and look around there are very few who actually
buy a set of plans, complete, and fly their own airplane. I am blessed beyond
measure and consider myself incredibly fortunate. I still can't believe it.

Quick update, 18,000 launches, more discounts being added for users, more positive
national press coverage and keeping it free to pilots. Thanks, Glenn

I agree Dan. If it wasn't for the _influence of other people and pilots_
as a young teen I doubt I would be in the air at all and I for sure
wouldn't be building a plane. When I was younger we lived beside a
medium sized GA airport and I spent more time there then at home and was
able to go on many flights with the pilot's I got to know there. I got
the home-building bug after helping/watching a gent finish his RV-7A and
then was treated to a few rides in it when it was done and the same
thing with a guy finishing a Zenith CH 650. I had my eye on the
Pietenpol as a potential plane and the decision was made when I was able
to pick up a half finish project for a song.

I only know Dick through this list, but he answered several of my questions
graciously. I greatly covet his radial Piet. It just looks so right!
How many Piets did he build/ influence?

I knew that Dick was signed up for Corvair College 30 in Mexico MO. I brought my
copy of Sport Pilot with his radial Piet on the cover. He signed it for me....it
will reside among some of my most prized possesions. What a nice guy he was.
Made me feel like an old friend the first time I met him.
