Subject: | Connecting Rod bolts |
My buddy Greg has located several more packages of the small Continental connecting
rod bolts. These fit all small Continentals from A-65 thru O-360's.
These are NOS Continental parts, 10 to a package.
Cost at ACS is about $19./ bolt, Greg wants $130. Per package.
PM or email me, and I will bring to Brodhead in July.

Thanks, Jack. I'm thinking that with it taking two days for me to fly to Br
odhead from Virginia, I may run that tablet down before I get to my interme
diate destination on the first day. I have one of those Mophi battery backu
ps that I can plug the tablet into but it won't fully recharge it. Also, wh
en I put a new prop on the airplane last year, I found it was lighter than
the old one, and when I burn off fuel, the airplane gets tail heavy. A moto
rcycle battery installed in a battery box on the firewall will help my weig
ht and balance, as well as being an on-board power source for handheld radi
o and tablet.
Looking forward to seeing you in less than a month.

Matt,
I have a battery on my firewall that I use to run my radio, transponder
(briefly, when needed) and GPS. It is a PowerSonic 18 Amp-Hour 12 volt
battery and it will run a Garmin GPSMap 196 for several days. You can
buy one from Aircraft Spruce
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/powersonic_2.php for
$58.75, or from BatteryPlex
(http://www.batteryplex.com/powersonic.cfm/m/PS-12180-NB) for $44.99.
It does require a special charger, which costs about $109 from
BatteryPlex. If you just want to get the battery for Brodhead this
year, you can borrow my charger.
It=99s nice having electrical power in your plane. I use it for
such necessary activities as powering my smoke system pump and running
my Ah-Oooga horn, in addition to powering the avionics.

is higher than aircraft spruce kit price, but I am going to pick up something
else there anyway. When comparing prices though, I noticed A.S. has kit for both
vert stab and rudder for about $50 before shipping, but when you order individual
pieces from them, it comes out to $92....????? I'm wondering if A.S. prices
for kit just haven't been updated, or is it just that good of a deal buying
kit vs parts? Anyone here know why kit is so much cheaper? Not a big deal
on these small parts, but I had been sort of budgeting my project around A.S.
kit prices. If this holds true for rest of project, I'm going to have to almost
double my numbers if I buy from Wicks.

Jack, your installation is what I've been thinking about. I've looked at a
lot of sealed unit and gel-cell batteries online, but haven't made up my mi
nd. I'd like something that I can attach a solar trickle charger to because
I don't have power at Twin Rivers. And I may not get this done before Bro
dhead. I'm assuming that your radio and transponder are hard wired and you
power the GPS from a cigarette lighter plug?

Matt,
I have a battery on my firewall that I use to run my radio, transponder (br
iefly, when needed) and GPS. It is a PowerSonic 18 Amp-Hour 12 volt batter
y and it will run a Garmin GPSMap 196 for several days. You can buy one fr
om Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/powersonic
_2.php for $58.75, or from BatteryPlex (http://www.batteryplex.com/powerson
ic.cfm/m/PS-12180-NB) for $44.99. It does require a special charger, which
costs about $109 from BatteryPlex. If you just want to get the battery fo
r Brodhead this year, you can borrow my charger.
It=99s nice having electrical power in your plane. I use it for such
necessary activities as powering my smoke system pump and running my Ah-Oo
oga horn, in addition to powering the avionics.

When I bought the Grega, it came with 2 Garmin 196s. I downloaded newest s/

Hey all,
My early father=99s day present was a Garmin NUVI auto gps. Since my

Anyways, I got to wondering if this auto gps would work in the plane and se

, it works fine. There=99s not much detail or aviation related info,
but many airports are there and in =9Coffroad=9D mode, it

Keep the charts though!

GPS 92 is awesome. older unit, but charge seems to last 20hrs or so on 4 AA's.
Comes w/extension cable so You can mount antenna up on centre section. I found
a panel mount bracket online to mount in the panel. You can usually find em cheap
on ebay. I might use forefright on my iPhone at times as well..

Use of opposite aileron on the ground was routine back in the '20s and '30s on
airplanes with no brakes and tailskids, everybody learned it. We still do it
all the time with the Rudolf Pietenpol. It becomes natural after a little practice.
You don't want to try to think of it when you're already headed for the
boonies, but use it for taxiing all the time and then it becomes natural. However
with brakes and/or a steerable tailwheel it really shouldn't be necessary.
