All, we will not be camping at the airport. My grandson has a small tent
that he will be sleeping in and we were told that no tents would be allowed
in the camper area, so we will be staying at a commercial campground in
Brodhead. Chuck

Chuck you might reconsider, camping on the field allows all the fun. Unless
things have changed tents have the prime spot in the woods across the field

Chuck,
You may want to check with your source again. There most certainly is
tent camping at the airport.

Very nice Cliff. Now get busy and cover it. Then go fly. I enjoyed covering mine.
Rib stitching got monotonous. Painting made me nervous trying to get a pro
job from a rookie. At 30 feet it looks fine!!

Subject: | Re: Modern old engine idea |
I was seriously considering a 2001 VW TDI engine for a Piet.
Peak torque was at 1850 rpm. Inline 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.
I still think that engine would have worked fine, but there were 2 things swayed
me from that path: the availability of diesel/JetA fuel at the kind of airports
that Piets typically fly at; and the fact that I trashed the engine shortly
after I chip-tuned it and put a bigger turbocharger on it (but it sure was
fun for a while).
It strikes me that human life is simply way too short to learn everything that
a person wants to.

Tent camping at Brodhead is very special experience.
Sometimes, in that early morning hour before sunrise there is a light ground fog.
It's during that early time of the morning when there isn't yet enough light
to see things in color. Seeing the Pietenpols and other old style airplanes
in that fog makes you feel like you have went back in time.
During this time the air is very still and quiet, and it is as peaceful as you
will ever experience.
The silence of the hour is soon perforated by a cacophony of flatulence emanating
from the tents, which is soon followed by the sounds of old engines starting
up, heralding the beginning of another new and wonderful day among friends at
Brodhead.

Hi Douwe
Have you ever tried ethylene glycol? It has amazing "hang "time. I have no
idea about any toxity issues if at all, but I do know this: a friends wife
called the fire dept after seeing smoke rolling out of her husbands hanger after
a brief test of his smoke system. I think it's better than oil and it does
rinse off the airplane with water. Maybe worth a try. Glen

I think what chuck said was that tents aren't allowed WITH the rv's. Which may
be technically true. However, in the spirit of things such as they are there,
if your grandson pitched a tent very close to and clearly associated with you,
I simply cannot imagine anyone saying a thing about it.
Now, if he took space away from an rv, then someone MIGHT politely ask him to relocate
to allow a wheeled vehicle there, which cannot go to the other side of
the closed runway.
I agree, being on the field is the way to go.
