Hi All also
=8BI am on the verge of building my wheels and I decided on 3.50"x18"
tires.
However, I think motorcycle tires are not sized lile car tires, ie. for
cars, width is given in millimeters and rim diameter in inches. I presume
for motorcycle tires they are both given in inches. The question: what size
rim for 3.5"x18" tire? I am pretty sure 3.5" is not the rim width.

Semih,
The tires used on NX18235 are 3.50 X 19 and the rims are stamped 1.85.

Hi All,
I am building up wire wheels. I am purchasing 40-spoke hubs from Ken
Perkins. I am now exploring two things: Rims and brakes. I've read the
archives, but am open to any further information listers may have.
As to rims, most everyone seems to use WM2 or WM3 (1.85" or 2.15" width,
respectively). My understanding is that the "WM" specification is an
older rim profile. Such rims are over twice as expensive as more modern
ones. Is there a reason not to use a conventional, flat style front rim,
something like:

Awhile back, Jack Phillips shared his rudder bar incident and modification. Does
anyone have pictures or an illustration of this mod?
Thanks!

Hi Tools,
Gah! The performance of Matronics irks me some times. For whatever reason, about
half of your replies never make it to my inbox.
In any event, do you know if the bog stock HD wheels will fit a 1.5 inch axle?
An issue I ran into with several motorcycle wheels is that the biggest diameter
axle they fit is 1.25".
Thanks,
Jeff

Oops... I guess I posted everything *but* an answer to your question, which should
have been something like, "I've read through Jack's post and the responses
that followed, but never saw an illustration or a photo showing the additional
brace that he describes". However, if you look at Drawing No. 4 of your Piet
plans, middle of the page is "Top View of Control Assembly" and you'll see that
there is a single asymmetrically-placed, 1/2" 20 ga. tubular rudder bar pivot
brace kicking over to the starboard side from under the nut on the pivot bolt.
If I'm reading the responses to Jack's caution correctly, a matching brace
over to the port side would help steady the assembly. A builder could get
elaborate and make a small tab to mount onto the pivot bolt and then slot the
ends of two tubular braces and weld them onto the tab instead of stacking flattened
ends of tubes onto the bolt, but then again it could also be fabricated
out of pieces of angle or any of a dozen other ways. If one wanted to get truly
artistic (Douwe-?), a piece of tube could be shaped into a semicircle, then
the ends and center flattened, and angles bent into it to form a single symmetrical
semicircular brace piece. Too much trouble though ;o)

I made my own mods but not for wire.
Others here have made or acquired custom hubs.
Is there enough meat to bore the hole bigger?
