Subject: | [PLEASE READ] Why I Have A Fund Raiser... |
Since the beginning, the Matronics List and Forum experience has been free from
advertising. I have been approached by fair number of vendors wanting to tap
into the large volume of activity across the various lists hosted here, but have
always flatly refused. Everywhere you go on the Internet these days, a user
is pummeled with flashing banners and videos and ads for crap that they don't
want. Yahoo, Google and that ilk are not "free". The user must constantly
endure their barrage of commercialism thrust into their face at an ever increasing
rate. Enough is enough, and the Lists at Matronics choose not to succumb
to that.
That being said, running a service of this size is not "free". It costs a lot
of money to maintain the hardware, pay for the electricity, air conditioning,
maintenance contracts, etc, etc. etc. I choose to hold a PBS-like fund raiser
each year during the month of November where I simply send out a short email
every other day asking the members to make a small contribution to support the
operation. That being said, that contribution is completely voluntary and non-compulsory.
Many members choose not to contribute and that's fine.
However, a very modest percentage of the members do choose to make a contribution
and it is that financial support that keeps the Lists running. And that's
it. To my way of thinking, it is a much more pleasant way of maintaining the
Lists and Forums. The other 11 months of the year, you don't see a single advertisement
or request for support. That's refreshing and that is a List and Forum
that I want to belong to. I think other people feel the same way.
Won't you please take a minute to make your Contribution today and support these
Lists?

Hi Piet friends,
I'm redoing my rudder post as per Jack Phillips. As I looked at my existing
post it's not fabricated per the Flying and Glider Manual. My existing one
is done with 1" at the top and bottom tabs. I can't find a matching layout
in my plans. Can anyone point me to a layout?
Thanks!
Jack

Bill; yet another drawback of aluminum for leading edges is that when you bump
the hangar door or anything else with it, you have a dent. You can sometimes
pop them back out if you can get to the backside to push them out, but they are
never smooth again. I've seen a case were a builder wanted to go the ultra-cheap
route and used the dead-soft aluminum that you buy in a roll at the hardware
store and can cut with scissors. That stuff is absolutely unforgiving when
it comes to dents.
You can use good aircraft sheet aluminum and it's more resistant to dents, but
it needs to be a bit heavier and stiffer and that makes it more difficult to form
and install the leading edges.

Those are tough questions, Jack. :)
I wouldn't be too worried about the tabs being 1" instead of 1 1/4". Since the
1934 plans don't even provide a dimension, most builders probably just eyeball
it - which probably is what you did. It looks like about an inch, relatively
speaking. Funny how both the FGM plans and the 1934 plans both provide incomplete
information for this component - but they are incomplete in different ways.
Not sure why your mounting bolts are spaced at 5 1/2" instead of 6 1/2". One possible
scenario is that you may have done the calculations, laid out the part,
cut it, drilled it, and bent it, and when you were finished, in order to maintain
the required height, that's just the way it worked. If you were to open
up the bends to maintain 6 1/2", the height would probably be too short. And,
since you most likely already have the floor drilled, there's no point in trying
to change it now.
