Jim, I don't have a steel tube fuselage, but it seems to me that the turtle deck could be made of wood -- just like the plans for the wooden fuselage says. Good fortune and MERRY CHRISTMAS. 2rn has been up between Scott and I every two weeks or so. Scott was up just last week for a couple hours. He's been running around landing in friends hay fields, kinda like she was designed to do! Warm chattanooga weather helps. Been a very warm winter so far up here in wisconsin. If not for scheduling conflicts, would have gotten checked out in the eaa's travel air as late as early November. While that didn't happen, I did manage to get checked out in their pt-1 husky. Flies a lot like a Piet, only easier to land! Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451256#451256 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/image_737.jpg

Ya. It's the only one known to be flying. There's another registered, but no info. It's got a cont 220 up front, a little overpowered. The difference between full throttle and about half is around 5 mph, and a lot of face slapping! It was a failure as a trainer because it's just too easy to land. It really is, just a cream puff. Good vis, not squirrelly at all, just super well mannered. I might be able to convince them to let me bring it to brodhead some year. We can't give paid rides in it because there was never a civilian type certificate, so it lives in the experimental category. Sad, when I flew it, that was probably it's last flight for several to who knows how many years. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451268#451268

I'm actually building the wood fuselage. Just can't find that darn turtle deck anywhere on the plans! -------- Your nose is high; you're in the sky. The other way around; you'll hit the ground.... Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451269#451269

While you are finishing your "mental build" you might as well spend the money and buy a copy of the 1932 Flyer & Glider Manual from the EAA bookstore. Pages 19 and 20 include a small discussion, and is the source of the attached picture. Just enough picture to encourage you to buy a copy. Barring that, westcoastpiet.com should have a ton of pictures that you can review. -------- Semper Fi, Terry Hand Athens, GA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451270#451270 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/image_528.jpeg

The PT-3 had Approved Type Certificate #83, that one is Experimental because of the engine. The other survivor is not too far from ready to cover. - -------- do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451271#451271

That is definitely not what I was told by the folks who rebuilt it. Perhaps they overlooked something? I know they would love to use it like a certified plane. They get around the rules some how and use it for their military pilot fantasy camp event they do every few years. Other than that, we don't use it for much. We've put 220s on several planes that didn't have them originally, including the travel air and swallow. Would love to know about the other one as well. Thanks! Jim The turtle deck formers are on the lower right corner of sheet "Drawing No. 1" (as labeled in the upper right corner). My turtle deck stringers are 1"x1/4" but I'm not sure where I got that from.
