Shellac is manufactured as flakes. You then mix it with alcohol. Once mixed it
has a very definite shelf life. Unfortunately that is how it's sold by nearly
all mainstream suppliers. You can still get it in flake form, which lasts
much much longer, from very high end and specialty paint and finish suppliers,
even some high end wood working stores.

It's non toxic, used by confectioners. Great for kids toys. It's the medium for
      French polishing.

It's alcohol based, and completely non tolerant of alcohol, one reason why gas
with ethanol is a no no in old carbs. It will simply dissolve the shellac.

While waiting for the mailed version of the newsletter, here is a pdf copy
      for your use.

Thanks to the people who beta tested the new website. I have a few bugs to
work out and may tap you again before we launch. Working on the next issue

last chance to get them in.

Hey Guys, Check this out. ADS-B in and out with weather TFRs, app with
      antenna. For <$500.

The company has a pretty good rep.

I myself think I will simply use my Anywhere Map on my tablet, and may buy
something like this to go into busy airspace. I can also put my anywhere
map on my cell phone as a backup. That keeps me legal (anywhere map counts
      as a current sectional.)
Wish they would get transponders to come down in cost. My extensive
research (At Aircraft Spruce) shows Mode S transponders running from $1500
up to $4000. And you still have to buy a harness.

The fact that you may not have received an issue any time in the lay 6-9 months
is no indication of your dues status.

      Steve,

I like this option as well. I think it is a better option than the DIY Stratux
adsb in. This bad elf has a GPS with it, and I do not believe the Stratux does.

If you are wanting this for flying in certain airspace you really need the gps.
From what I have read, the refresh rate on the gps inside the iPad, for example,
is insufficient for such flying. YMMV.

      Thanks Jack,

      Have a Happy New Year.

New newsletter issue this week. Nice carburetor article by Bob Kachergius. You
are good for three more issues. I think we are in a bit of a lull for family members
dying and becoming quadriplegics. Lost a niece at Thanksgiving on the side
of the family that is allergic to work. She left two nice little kids my wife
and I are trying to deal with.

We are using your engine builder to to overhaul a C-85 stroker for one of the training
Cubs. That one swallowed a valve. We had a C-90 on it but a local IA was
doing some work and decided to start the engine without the throttle cable
attached. It went to half throttle, rocked forward on the chocks and made a nice
curly cue out of the propeller. Worse was it trashed the crankshaft and the
accessory case. We found a crank for 7K and decided it would be faster and easier
      to overhaul the 85.

      Say Hi to Susan!

      Best,
