A 1947 cessna 120. Very low time engine and one owner last 30 yrs. super plane
mechanically, the gent lost his medical. Offered it to me for the ten K I was
asking for 2rn.
Turns out my surrogate son, and newly promoted Master at Arms First Class, US Navy,
bought it to get his license with, so she's still in the family! I just
didn't want it to get away altogether.
I should be bringing it to Brodhead to play with. I'll ferry it to him down in
Pensacola early fall.

Hi all=2C
Just a quick introduction to this Matronics Pietenpol family=85
My name is Ed Knouse=2C better known as =93KTOWN=94 to family and friends.
I am a first-time=2C novice builder=2C who purchased a partially completed
Pietenpol Air Camper about a year ago. I=92m based out of Calvada Meadows (
NV74) in Pahrump=2C Nevada. I=92ve learned a great deal about Experimental
Amateur-Building in the past year with a very steep learning curve! I=92ve
already learned some valuable lessons the hard way as well! Until now I=92
ve only been following a =93Tailwind=94 forum on Yahoo (for reasons I=92ll
explain later)!
I=92m a former Air Force pilot (F-16s=2C U-2s and C-12s among other trainin
g aircraft). I=92m fairly new to the GA world (just the last 3 years)...aga
in a steep learning curve...flying C-172s and SR-20/22s (several =93flavors
=94 of each)=2C C-206=2C the PAC-750 parachute plane on Sundays at Jean=2C
NV for fun and excitement (and to supplement my =93aircraft porn=94 addicti
on!) and I=92ve got about a half dozen landings in an RV-6! I=92ve had a f
ew =93trike=94 rides as well and hope to complete my checkout in a trike in
the next few months as time permits! I just completed my Single Engine Se
a rating with Mo Martin and evaluator at Lake Havasu=2C AZ (KHII) a few mon
ths back (most fun you can have with your clothes on!)! I=92ve also got a g
reat support group with my local EAA Chapter 1160 at Calvada! I've logged n
early 500 hours since joining the world of GA flying.
When I bought =93The Piety Project=94 as I affectionately refer to what wil
l ultimately be called =93The Fabulous Princess Di=94 (after my Brit wife D
iana). The fuselage=2C landing gear=2C tail (elevator and rudder) and one w
ing was essentially completed. I have since completed about 90-95% of the l
ast wing and only have the leading edge to shape and then attach the hardwa
re. I hope to hang the wings and run the control cables (when I return from
an extended overseas business trip in mid-August). The Piety Project came
with a Lycoming 290-G that was laying around the hanger which has had a maj
or overhaul (a topic for a separate post) and has recently had its first te
st run. Tweaking a few things on the motor and then hope to hang it on the
fuselage by early September sporting an Insight G3 gauge to make sure I do
n=92t mess up the good work on the overhaul! For all you =93purists=94 cove
r your eyes for the next bit. I plan to put on an electrical system (with a
lternator) and have already installed LED lights for night flying. I will a
lso be installing the GTX345 (ADS-B in/out compliant) so I can fly into con
trolled airspace after 2020 (I=92ve already been from as far east as Fort W
orth to as far west as Sacramento in the other aircraft mentioned above)! S
till deciding on a radio/intercom system. I plan to use my iPhone 6 plus (a
my poor man=92s glass cockpit) with ForeFlight. It will still have a needl
e/ball and round dial airspeed/altimeter! It has dual flight controls and w
ire wheels. Hopefully that is enough to wet your whistles!
As I mentioned earlier=2C based on questions I had regarding the 290-G conv
ersion for aircraft use=2C I got connected with the Tailwind Forum on Yahoo
. Again=85a long story about the 290-G conversion that I=92ll save for anot
her post (and yes I=92m sure it will be too heavy and has way to much power
at 125hp). I plan to mount a Sensenich=2C 74" by 45" (pitch) wooden prop
on it! DOES THAT SOUND "about right"??? Soliciting inputs! If I can learn
as much from =93real Pietenpol=94 builders and pilots from this forum as I
have learned about the 290-G from the Tailwind forum=2C I will be more tha
n ecstatic!!!
>From the small bit of info/background I have provided above I am guessing s
ome of you are cringing=2C some are laughing hysterically=2C=2C some are in
trigued=2C some are curious and most if not all want more info and will be
chomping at the bit with suggestions! I have only had the opportunity to se
e one completed Pietenpol =93in the flesh=94 at Fox Field (KWJF) in Lancast
er=2C CA and that is apparently a =93hybrid=94 with Cub wings.
I hope to be undertaking taxi tests by October (but I have a tendency to be
overly optimistic!) and flights shortly thereafter. Bummed I missed the W
est Coast event in June. That would have been an excellent opportunity to l
earn tons of info and drool on your aircraft=2C but even had I known about
it I would not have been able to attend due to my current business travel.
Right now I have only been working on =93The Piety Project=94 on weekends f
rom a shared=2C rented hanger=2C but with the recent install of a generator
=2C lights and a swamp cooler=2C I hope to =93hit it hard=94 when I return.
I=92m looking forward to the information I=92m sure I will be able to gle
an from this forum and look forward to chatting with=2C emailing and hopefu
lly meeting many of you in the next few weeks=2C months and years!
I hope to set up a separate blog site and YouTube channel and post photos a
nd videos there and here once I learn a bit more about how to navigate arou
nd Matronics!
Cheers=2C
