Thanks, Douwe. Maybe if a few of us stick around the group will enlarge.
If the few of us die off, there just won't be a Pietenpol forum. C

FWIW, I've been lurking a lot recently due to several issues, none of which has
to do with the late unpleasantness, which I managed to largely miss simply by
being swamped at work. I'll probably start contributing again as time and patience
allows (patience being required to actually use the list, which for some
reason has always been hit-or-miss wrt to posting my posts!).

I agree with others that an email list allows for deeper conversations and better
archiving. FB is more multimedia-friendly, but tends to be more drive-by announcement
rather than utilitarian discussion. I think that there is a place for
both, but as with everything in life, there's only so much time.

Hey guys, just an update my pietenpol and me.
I have done little in my piet for 6 months as a result of low cash flow,
hot weather and motivation. I am truly close to getting her completed. My
biggest single project is hettingy Hangar rearranged so that I can turn my
other plane around and make space for the pietenpol with the wings on!

Personally: I am currently taking the part 141 instrument flight course
with Tempus Training. They use Redbird full motion flight simulators and
new Cessna 172S planes. Friday I will be doing the long distance cross
country. I will be done in about two or three weeks. I loved learning to
fly.BUT i don't enjoy instrument training. It is just a tool and
requirement for me to go to the next step.
Next I will get my vtail Bonanza back in annual and will use it to get my
commercial rating. I will do this part 61.
Then I will return to tempus and do their part 141 professional instructor
course. This course gets me my CFI, CFII and MEI.

The end goal is to get someone else to pay for my flying addiction.

I intend on getting the pietenpol finished during this time. Maybe I can
use it to commute to training!

      Blue Skies,
      Steve D

I would also hate to see this list wither. I've met a lot of great people, gotten
questions answered and even been entertained by some of the goings on. Let's
      keep it going.

      Hi all,
Another lurker still here in Japan.
Although my project has stagnated (all the normal reasons, but the
project's not totally dead yet), I had sort of wondered what happened
with the list as the posts seem to be few and far between. I too finally
opened an FB account just this year. I did search for 'Pietenpol' but
wasn't that wrapped with the response.
Although I don't have much that I can offer to this list, I sincerely
hope that it comes back to life more, it really is the best Piet info
site available when you need advice or just want a smile.
The only Piet thing that I still do is fly my r/c model. Just a couple
of months ago, it passed it's 400th flight and it is now about 15 1/2
years old and it still flies just as well as ever.
I know it's not the same as flying a full size aircraft, but it's still
a Piet so I like it and will continue to do so.
Anyway, hope the list continues and helps to make peoples dreams come to
      life.....cheers to everyone!

I resisted going to the FB group for a long time, but a couple of years
back, the tone of this group degenerated radically and got real negative
because of a few people and this group shrank to almost nothing. I
stayed on, but really missed seeing people's projects and hearing about
their progress etc so I went over to the dark side.

Seems like those people have moved on now that the damage is done, but
there used to be 20-30 posts a day from fun stuff to technical stuff and
without this group I wouldn't have been able to build my plane. It's a
shame, but I don't see it coming back though I still lurk.

No comparison! Matronics is THE place to learn and share about Pietenpol building,
and has been invaluable in my 5 years +/- process. I've been helped by searching
the archives, asking questions, reading the daily posts, being directed
to West Coast Piets, connecting off-line, and feeling part of a vast pool of
knowledge, skills, and experience. Thanks to many including all of you who make
Matronics what it is. Don Youngblood, a.k.a. "planes & bikes".

| Subject: | Pietenpol Weekend at Old Rhinebeck Airport Aug. 27-28 |

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (NY94) is hosting a Peitenpol Fly-In the weekend of Aug.
27-28. Several of us from Virginia are planning to fly up for it. I hope some
other Piets from the New England/Mid-Atlantic/Mid-west might be considering
going. I can't make Brodhead this year so this is going to be my Piet Fix for
      the year.

Hi Jeff, Please do keep up with your inputs to the Pietenpol list. I aways enjoy
seeing your videos; they are an inspiration to the rest of us still building.

This is where I am on my project, everything covered but the fuselage, fina
l fitting the cowl now and hope to finish all covering next month. Painting
maybe September or October. I was positive four and a half years ago I wou
ld be flying in two years, oh well getting close now. Not sure why my phone
sent the pictures sideways but you get the idea.
=C2- As far as this list goes I was very cautious to post after all of th
e meanness a few years ago. That stuff I'm not interested in but I will in
the future do my part to keep this list active. Also I think I miss some po
sts too. I will see peoples responses to posts that I never saw.
      =C2-
      Thanks,

A couple of things I'd like to post since there isn't much traffic on the list
at present. First of all, has anyone heard how Ken Bickers is doing in the repairs
to his airplane up in the Denver area, and his engine mount build for the
O-200? Next, I always enjoy hearing from Jake Schultz and his beautiful round-engine,
steel-tube frame Air Camper up in Washington. Any news from up there?
Is the airplane still rolling on skinny plywood wheels? Jake has what may
arguably be the cleanest and best organized workshop in the entire known universe.

Last item, a public shout-out of thanks to Chris Tracy and Gary Boothe, neither
of whom I have ever met in person, yet I feel like they are hangar mates and
airport bums that I get to 'see' (virtually, via this list or email) whenever
I want to say hey or ask a question. And they are both responsible for a certain
2-cylinder, 4-stroke engine of mine that is quietly waiting for me to start
its next life, which will be on a Part 103 ultralight. Imagine no biennial,
no medical, no radios, no airport fences, minimal regulations, no nothing except
fuel it up and go fly... all I need to do is get myself down to Gary's hangar
and pick it up from where he's been storing it for me.

This list better continue! I aint goin over to the dark side! Facebook
has no scruples. All your personal info is handed over to anyone
who asks for it. AND we're not just talkin' big corporations wanting
to sell you stuff. That's not the half of it either. OK there's my rant.

So It's been a while due to combined health, financial, huge moving
stuff going on since before Christmas of 2014. Things are looking
up and airplane stuff has actually been done. In July of last year
I had the wings on with temporary 2" X 2" lumberyard temporary
struts and rumbled it out to the flightline for or chapter yearly
flyin, etc. Tons of people around my plane all day. What a magnet!

I had to put a sign on the struts as folks assumed they were the
      real ones, even pilots!!!

Had it out this year with the real struts on it. No jury struts yet
      though, or aileron cables (soon).

Some pics of my Hemlock stuts attached.
      More in the next installment.
