HI Paul,
I say don't overthink the disc, the brakes on a Piet aren't used heavily
whatsoever. ALMOST never on landing (unless you have big wheels and you
just get tired of rolling on asphalt after landing). They're mainly for
run-up, taxing around obstacles etc, so they're rarely if ever used hard.
It's a proven idea and the thinness shouldn't effect anything. Stainless
should work just fine and as pointed out, won't rust over the years sitting
in the hangar.

ill fabricating the disc. initially used a saw blade but having second
thoughts.
may be a little too thin for my comfort. probably going with 1/8 thick x 6
or
7 inches but wondering if it makes a difference stainless vs mild. either
should work ,right??

Hey Mike,
Absolutely gorgeous airplane!
Has she flown yet? I can't remember.

Thanks Douwe. No, the plane has not flown and it pains me to say so. I have not
been able to complete my flight training, have not pursued renting a hangar for
and have not done any further work on it. My hopes are to finish training and
acquire a hangar next summer. Then at some point soon after, complete final
assembly and commence with engine runs, ground tests and...first flight.
All in due time.

thanks Douwe. I didn't mention it, but part of the problem I was having with the
very thin disc was mounting it so that it tracks true. I cant seem to get a
little warp out of it. im going to try making a 1inch x 1/8 disc that will sandwich
the saw blade to the 4 mointing points to see how that works. with the little
warp was concerned it might give a pulsing of the brakes. all part of the
fun.

If it rusts, it means that you are not flying enough.
