Dear Listers,
You might have wondered at some point, "What's my Contribution used for?" Here
are just a few examples of what your direct List support enables... It provides
for the expensive, commercial-grade Internet connection used on the List.
It pays for the regular system hardware and software upgrades enabling the highest
performance possible for List services such as the Archive Search Engine,
List Browser, and the Web Forums. It pays for the over 23 years of on-line
archive data always available for instant search and access. And, it offsets
the many hours spent writing, developing, and maintaining the custom applications
that power these List Service such as the List Browse, Search Engine, Forums,
and Wiki.
But most importantly, your List Contribution enables a forum where you and your
peers can communicate freely in an environment that is free from moderation,
censorship, advertising, commercialism, SPAM, and computer viruses.
It is YOUR CONTRIBUTION that directly enables all these aspects of Matronics List
services. Please support it today with your List Contribution. Its one of

Just to add to this discussion, a bit about the Riblett airfoil nomenclature.
I'm no expert on the subject, but my understanding is that the "612" is Riblett's
GA30-612 (and modifications thereof). By Riblett's terminology, the "30"
means that the maximum thickness occurs at 30% of the wing chord or 18" aft of
the wing leading edge for the 60" chord Piet wing. The "-12" indicates that
the wing depth (thickness) is 12% of the chord, or 7.2". The stock FC-10 airfoil
is about an inch less deep than the 612 and it also has undercamber, which
the Riblett does not. Other considerations aside, including performance, a deeper
spar can carry the same loads with lighter construction than a shorter one...
if properly engineered. A thicker wing section can provide more room for
larger fuel tanks or a baggage compartment, if that's a consideration.
