Hi Ray,
I'm not seeing you on the membership list at all. If you can join up again, I'll
send the most recent newsletter.

I want to encourage us all to visit the new BPA website and utilize/support
their efforts. This is a good group of guys and I think in their hands the
BPA will flourish again, but they need out support. Even though I'm a long
time user of this forum, it is admittedly outdated and clunky to say the
least. I feel that their "builders forum" area could replace this one
giving us a much more efficient and user friendly means to communicate.
We'd then have a "builder-focused" group like this, and a more social/visual
one on FaceBook.
Give it a look see.

Charles, they have set a pretty low standard for membership. Perhaps you
did not meet the standard! LOL
Go to http://www.pietenpols.org/ and click on register.
It took me a while to poke around the site but I think it will be a good
change.

Douwe et al. Could someone write a tutorial to this site? Or better do a
video.
Nothing in depth but I am a Charter member of the Luddite club, membership
number 1!
I need to be led around by the nose with technology. I am stumbling around
the site now.
I am pretty pleased with it.

Howdy all. Some of you may have heard that the Brodhead Pietenpol Association has
changed hands. A group of us at Brodhead Airport have agreed to take the reins
from John Hofmann and have committed to publishing four newsletters per year,
along with planning the annual Pietenpol Reunion at Brodhead Airport.
A new website is up, and while it is still being built out with content, you can
go there to join or renew your membership, download selected back issues of
the newsletter and join other builders and enthusiasts in the discussion board.
http://www.pietenpols.org
The discussion board is a new feature meant to bring a much updated version of
the Matronics board back to the "mothership." Also, we are starting to scan many
of the original newsletters from the early 1970s and 80s that are full of good
information from the old-timers.
As always, we appreciate any information, articles, photos, ideas and general gossip
that you all can provide for the newsletter. Contact information at the
website.
Thanks to John Hofmann for his work over the past several years.

Do you have a couple of pictures? Also where did you get them? Or did you
make them yourself? Where did you get the pattern? Etc etc

Well, after sitting in a bag on my workbench for two years while I
procrastinated, I finally went a head and installed VG's on "RE-PIET" and
flew her for the first time today. I had debated and debated then after my
talks with PF Beck, decided to bite the bullet. After my first flight I'm
really pleased. Can't tell how much, because of the Johnson vane-type
airspeed indicator, but my stall speed has been reduced noticeably. She's
always stalled very mildly, but she is noticeably "rock solid" feeling just
before the stall which is even milder I think. The slowest I used to be able
to maintain altitude was around 1700rpm, now I think she's maintaining
altitude in the 1500's. Don't notice a reduction in cruise speed.
Overall, I'm stoked. they're small and clear so they're hard to see, though
you can see them at three-point attitude if you step back and that certainly
isn't vintage, but I think it's worth it. that's about the only drawback I
can find so far.

Oscar,
Thanks for all the info! The link to your hinge making process is over the top.
I really appreciate your tireless contributions to the Pietenpol (and aviation
in general) community. I always look forward to your posts, and BECAUSE you
are such a nice guy, I will NOT be going into mass production of Mr. Kapler's
hinges : )
Seriously though, one thing that really stood out to me was your numbers relating
to hinge weight moment (requiring 18lbs of fuel to counter) This really drives
home the point of watching every single ounce of weight in the tail feathers!
