Semih, You should follow the manual. Connecting the mags that way (Left to bottom plugs) is traditional, and very helpful, when trying to track down a rough-running condition problem. Semih; I asked the same question of the A&P who rebuilt my A75 with dual Slick mags. The first time I looked it over before annual condition inspection, I noticed that the plug wires weren't run the way the book says to. I have a great deal of respect for my A&P... here's his explanation: "The manual for the A series Continentals calls for one mag to fire the bottom plugs and the other to fire the top plugs. The mag firing the bottom plugs is advanced 3 more than the mag that fires the top plugs. More modern designs (C series Continentals for example) split the ignition so each mag fires half top and half bottom plugs. I changed your A-75 to the more modern method with both mags timed the same, which is contrary to the A series manual. "There is nothing special about the combustion chamber design that would require the split timing. It was just a different philosophy back in the 40s when these engines were built. The primary concern was oil fouling of the lower plugs and poorer quality spark plugs and magnetos which often times caused misfires, so by having one mag fire all the top plugs, you could get at least one mag to run cleanly and the other mag would usually clean up sometime after take off. With improved oils, rings, etc, and better care of the engines, oil fouling plugs has mostly become a thing of the past. Most pilots today won't consider flying on one magneto, but back in the early 40s, dual ignition was relatively new and a luxury on these small engines. -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power, 72x36 Culver prop Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=467642#467642

Thank you Oscar. I will go with the more recent configuration. A couple of years ago, my buddy was putting new Magnetos on his A65 powered Aeronca Champ. Lots of airport experts came to help. It would not fire a lick. My buddy told everyone he was done for the day an started putting up stuff. Everyone left but him and me. We pulled the mag's and started over following the manual. Set the timing. Pulled the plane out and pulled it through 4 blades to prime it. He called out "hot" and it fired on the first blade! It ran great.
