Alternate acceptable wood? See AC43-13. My employer recently went to Alaska to
see what one of our suppliers had to offer. Boss didnt even buy a popsicle stick.

You might try Edensaw Woods in Port Townsend, WA. Other builders have gotten spruce
from them.

If you are going to Oshkosh try Mccormick lumber in Madison, WI. You can
go pick out your lumber and take it or I believe the will ship. Last time I
checked it was about $10.00 a board foot.

There are lots of other alternatives for the experimenter. Hemlock has very nearly
the same bending strength and weight as Sitka spruce and may be available
in your region. Douglas fir has been mentioned... it's a bit heavier but is
stronger in bending than spruce. Just depends on what you want, how much you're
willing to pay, and how hard you're willing to look for it.
