Port wing is built and strung. I used 3/32x7 cables drawn twang tight (no turnbuckles, Clotilde). It werent easy. Asides from the usual adjusting and tweaking, triangulating, squaring and creaking, I also had to modify my crimper to get into some petty tight spots. Just to set a hemline, once everything was crimped and cut I set a five pound weight where the cables cross and measured the sag. 7/16. Suppose only time will show the folly or wisdom of my choice here. I know its not per the plans but I hope its per the spirit. Ill try and report back in a year or so. -------- Dan O Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=482635#482635 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/img_3769_1_173.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/img_3770_1_614.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/img_3772_1_467.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/img_3771_1_761.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/img_3697_2_666.jpg ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 09:10:22 PM PST US Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Turnbuckles =?ISO-8859-1?Q?ain=99t?= cheap From: "taildrags" Well Dan, the plans call for the wing drag/anti-drag wires to be 13 ga. hard wire, but who knows what the strength of that wire was, back in 1932? Your 3/32" stranded cable is just about the same diameter as 13 gauge, if the table I looked at is correct. Both 7x7 and 7x19, 3/32" galvanized aircraft cable are about 1000 lbs in breaking strength. My guess is that your wing will be as good as most and probably better than some. -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power, 72x36 Culver prop Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=482642#482642 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message pietenpol-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Pietenpol-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/pietenpol-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/pietenpol-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
