| Subject: | Lift Strut attach fittings |

      Hello Pieters,

The lift strut attach fittings, if built to the 1933 plans, are spaced 27 3/4"
between centers. Does anyone know why they are not the same 28 3/4" spacing as
the spar centers? Obviously it works but I can't understand why the lift struts
were not run parallel to each other. On the GN-1, John Grega designed his
adaptation of the Piet so that they are parallel - the strut fittings are the
same spacing as the spars. Any insight as to why Mr. Pietenpol did not do
      this?

      Thanks,

      Doug Wright

      Pieters,

To answer my own question I found in the archives from 2003 a discussion on this
question. Seems I was not the first to ask it. The consensus was:

1.) No one knows why the lift strut attach points are 27 3/4" apart.

2.) Most people have built their planes based on that dimension.

3.) It flies just fine built that way so don't worry about it.

Good enough for me. And one gentleman said the GN-1 struts are actually 1/2" inch
out of parallel. I stand corrected.

      Doug
