After that expires (soon-!), the manufacture, importation, or sale of 121.5 Mhz ELTs will be prohibited. Oscar, Use is not prohibited. Rather the the certification, and eventually the manufacture, importation, or sale of 121.5-MHz ELTs ended on 1/1/2019 with the six month grace period of manufacturers and sellers of the product. Not users. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2018/december/18/new-1215-mhz-elts-to-be-prohibited Having said that, a 406 ELT package is about $900-1100 at ACS. A PLB at ACS is $300-600, The higher end PLB broadcasts on the 406 Mhz band as well. So from a price standpoint, the PLB is a better use of money. The only question I have is this - what causes the PLB to send a signal? An ELT is activated either manually or by G forces. If the PLB is only manually actuated, Mike, you have to ask yourself how it benefits you in an incident in which you are incapacitated. I don't have an answer for that, although I am asking myself those same questions. -------- Semper Fi, Terry Hand Athens, GA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=489917#489917 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:58:05 PM PST US From: Ken Bickers Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: ELT Recommendation Aircraft Spruce is advertising its Ack 406 ELT complete new install unit for $544. I've installed two of these in the past few years. One in my Pacer (yes, under the supervision of an A&P) and one in my Piet. They are simple to install. Everything required is included in the kit. The EBC ELT 121.5 unit is 8 dollars cheaper. That's not a lot of savings for the decrease in functionality.
