Subject: | Port Charlotte, FL Pietenpol Build |
Hey everyone,
My Piet build has been off and on for a number of years now, but it seems that
finally, I will be able to continue. As for where I am at now, here it goes:
Rudder/fin - ready for hardware and cover
Elevators - one ready for hardware and cover, one needs varnish
Horizontal Stab - Needs final shaping, sanding, and varnish
Ribs - ready for varnish (got them completed)
Fuselage - Sides complete, need to be put together
That is my current situation, and I have already made some perhaps odd decisions
for the future of the build.
I will be using a Ford A for the engine due to classic looks, low cost, and simplicity.
I will be using the straight axle landing gear with motorcycle wheels. However
since I plan on building with the tailskid, I am opting out of brakes. Yes, I
know this limits me to grass (unless I have decided that life has gotten too boring),
but I feel that it simplifies the design greatly, saves me a few pounds,
and I really love that it harkens back to the original Pietenpols.
One interesting thing to note however is that I have a long fuselage and plan on
using the Model A. I am not particularly concerned about this as on average
I weigh about 225 and am 6'4" so some extra room is worth it.
Instrumentation will be minimal, and no electric system.
Still debating if I want to put in a door. Definitely adding a step though.
I will post pictures as soon as my garage is somewhat presentable.
Best wishes,
Joachim "Joe" Seitz
