On a very sad note I wanted to pass the word that a great man and a great Pietenpol
builder and flyer, P.F. Beck passed away earlier today. He was the consummate
southern gentleman. Below is a link to William Wynnes post sharing his thoughts
about P.F. William says it in a far better way than I ever could -

I regret to say that I never met P.F. in person, but having recently lost a very
close friend whose parents said they grew tired of hearing the word 'sorry'
in connection with his life, I'll say the following instead. I'm glad to have
lived in the same era as P.F. because he brought so much to the aviation world
and to life in general. I'm glad to know that there can still be unselfish,
honorable, responsible, humble people like P.F. and I know that he has inspired
others to go and do likewise by the way he lived his life. I'm glad to read
about his accomplishments, and his contributions, and the recognition that he
received while on this earth- but I think the most telling part of what William
wrote about P.F. was captured in the picture of P.F. serving himself from
the nearly-empty warming pans in the serving line at the Corvair College buffet.
That, more than anything, exemplifies the life well lived, the life that finds
its reward in bringing joy to others. Serve others first, then serve yourself
when everyone's plates are filled- and you will enjoy your meal to its very
fullest because then when you sit down to eat you'll be able to look around
the table and see all those other people enjoying their meals because of your
work and sacrifice. There truly is honor in being the last to go through the
serving line, and I know that P.F. will find our Lord's words to be true now
that he is where he can realize the truth of those words: "for the last shall
be first, and the first last". I'm glad that you will now get to be first, P.F.
