Hi, Joe in Port Charlotte- sounds like you've got some grass/turf to operate your
Piet off of. Probably no shortage of grass in Florida, huh? Do you have a
color scheme in mind? It seems that most of the classic-configured Piets like
those of Don Emch and Forrest Lovley feature light-colored wings with tall registration
markings, then a contrasting color fuselage with some art or a logo
on the aft fuselage sides. And do you plan to use the Stewart System or the
Poly-Fiber covering system when you get to that point?

Hi Joe,
I have a Pietenpol in Titusville Florida that's been flying for 9 1/2
years. I'm at X21 which has a paved and grass strip. I think you might
want to reconsider no brakes no tailwheel unless you are planning to
operate off a grass strip exclusively. At this stage a tailwheel would
be very easy to add on, then you can land anywhere. Brakes are a nice
addition too. Just putting my cards on the table :). Pictures of my
plane and build are on the westcoastpiet site:

I'm planning on only grass and keeping it as close to 1930's original as feasible.
Paint will likely be clear doped or cream wings and a black, blue, or red
fuselage. Tall numbers are a must. Probably going to use latex for the covering
process though. From what I have seen, it is durable, simple, and inexpensive.
As for the vintage flair, I am even using a mechanical airspeed indicator (Johnson)
that will be mounted out on the left jury strut.

Joe,
Talk with Gene Rambo. He built a "purist" Pietenpol with Model A, tailskid and
no brakes. He found flying it to Brodhead from Virginia just how limiting that
can be. In the Midwest where there are plenty of grass strips it might not
be much of a problem, but in Virginia, even if you can find a grass strip they
usually don't have fuel.

I have not heard from Gene in years and I dont think hes on this list any more.
So, did he decide to live with the limitations, or make changes?
