He left the plane in Brodhead for a year before hiring someone else to bring it back to Virginia. I don't recall but I think it came back by truck. As far as I know he hasn't flown it much - still having some problems with his engine. So, did he decide to live with the limitations, or make changes? > On Sep 8, 2019, at 6:46 PM, Jack Philips wrote: > > --> > > Joe, > > Talk with Gene Rambo. He built a "purist" Pietenpol with Model A, tailskid and no brakes. He found flying it to Brodhead from Virginia just how limiting that can be. In the Midwest where there are plenty of grass strips it might not be much of a problem, but in Virginia, even if you can find a grass strip they usually don't have fuel. > > Jack Phillips > Pietenpol Air Camper, NX899JP "Icarus Plummet" > A-65 powered Pietenpol, wire wheels, brakes and tailwheel > > RV-10, N142KW Still in phase 1 testing > > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-pietenpol-list-server@matronics.com > [mailto:owner-pietenpol-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Ben > Charvet > Sent: Sunday, September 8, 2019 1:41 PM > To: pietenpol-list@matronics.com > Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: put your cards on the table Gents and Ladies! > > --> > > Hi Joe, > I have a Pietenpol in Titusville Florida that's been flying for 9 1/2 years. I'm at X21 which has a paved and grass strip. I think you might want to reconsider no brakes no tailwheel unless you are planning to operate off a grass strip exclusively. At this stage a tailwheel would be very easy to add on, then you can land anywhere. Brakes are a nice addition too. Just putting my cards on the table :).
