Perhaps a little more detail on what you're referring to about hardware for attaching the lift struts and cabane struts? The connections are made up using AN bolts, washers, and nylock nuts, but I think maybe you were asking more about what type of fork ends or fittings, more than just the fasteners themselves? Those connections are very well detailed and illustrated in the 1932 Flying & Glider Manual, the Pietenpol family plan sets, and of course on a whole host of different photo collections on Westcoastpiet.com inder 'Pictures'. To begin your search, just scroll down to Mike Cuy's pictures. There are two pages of them, plus a page of various drawings and details, that depict just about every aspect of the typical Air Camper. Mike's airplane won a Lindy award at EAA Oshkosh 1998 for outstanding workmanship. 2. As to the ailerons, elevators, and rudders, you can go old-school and use strap hinges for the ailerons and fabricated steel hinge pairs for the tail surfaces, but if you use piano hinges for the ailerons, you'll also be sealing the control surface gaps, which improves their effectiveness by keeping the airflow over them attached longer and at higher angles of attack. As to the tail surface hinges, the cast aluminum "Vi Kapler style" hinges are still available (I sell them) and they work quite well and require no welding, only finishing with shop tools. 3. You didn't specify whether you meant flight instruments or engine instruments, but the inline Ford 4-cylinder only needs a few instruments... tach, oil pressure, and water temperature. You can go old-timey with your instruments, mechanical tach, or you can go with automotive gauges or even digital instruments if you have 12V available. 4. About those tires, someone else will have to chime in. A considerable number of Piets are seen with those tires and maybe they're 8.00x6 but I'm not certain. I have 6.00x6s on my Air Camper and to my eye they look a little small, so I've got a pair of 8.00 tires in the hangar, waiting to go on my 6" wheels to give them more of the look that you're interested in. -------- Oscar Zuniga Medford, OR Air Camper NX41CC "Scout" A75 power, 72x36 Culver prop Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=498294#498294 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 09:26:49 PM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Some Basic Pietenpol Project Questions From: "Pietman" Thank you, taildrags! The information you provided is greatly appreciated. I have the Pietenpol plan set, but will certainly be looking into the other resources you mentioned.
