Subject: | Fuselage covering |
I am thinking about stratigy for covering the fuselage. when you cover the front
part that is covered in plywood, how do you glue the fabric? I am assuming you
don't coat all the ply with glue

Read poly Fibre instruction manual. You did put the strip in the center of the
fuse side, yes? Remove all metal fittings and hardware. This airplane should already
have been assembled and rigged prior to covering. Its lots bettter to have
routed cables and such so you know precisely where they exit the fabric. first
I would lay fuse on one side, glue fabric only on top and bottom longerons,
wrapping around to back sides for good bond. Precoat longerons(this is where
youll be happy about spending the extra money on a catylised varnish or epoxy
to seal your fuse. When using poly brush or fabric cement, the money you saved
will lift because it cant withstand the chemical battle. Precoat the part
of overlap on top fuse ply surface. Allow a 2 seam overlap and cut it nicely cuz
the cut line will show if you dont. The cut line will be hidden by tapes if
youre careful. For simplicity, only go as far as top longerons for now. Turtle
deck and fin are done last
Work wrinkles out gently as gluing progresses no iron yet glue front and rear
edges allowing good seam overlap
Take a break and look at your work then roll fuse and cover other side. The
bottom comes next. I like using h heavier weight of fabric on lower fuse to better
withstand gravel etc normally kicked up by prop.
Turtle deck and top of fuse comes next. By now you should basically know how
to do what youre doing follow same procedure. When you are working on larger
ply surfaces,be careful not to allow gobs of glue to dry on the surface it will
show through your fabric and is a bear to try to correct later. Main advice
is READ THE MANUAL!!
