If there is a shunt then the current is not running through the gage. The
current runs through the shunt. The current gage is just a voltmeter
measuring the voltage drop across the shunt. Typical value is 50 mV for 100
amps.

I have a 1967 Piper PA-32 Cherokee 6 . Does anyone have experience in
replacing the ammeter with a different gauge? It does not make much sense
to route all of the ammeter output thru that gauge even if you use a shunt
per the AD.
