I appreciate any help. > > Al Did you ever isolate this problem? I've read material that leads me to believe that this problem is sometimes caused by one of two things. One thing to check is the field circuit breaker. Excessive resistence with age accounts for some of these problems. Another source could be a bad overvoltage relay if you are so equipped. This information was taken off of a troubleshooting page from KellyAerospace. Hope this helps. I noticed that you referred to changing the "cutout relay" so that would not be your problem. The troubleshooting page did not mention an alternator diode as a possible problem. At any rate, the cost of a field circuit breaker is nominal if it solves your problem. Jim Nice
