Subject: | S-1S Horizontal Stab Question |
--> Pitts-List message posted by: "Gregg Costabile" <gcostabile@cyou.com>
Question relates to setting the angle of incidence for the horiz. stab on an S-1S.
The leading edge tube of the left and right elevators slide into the front horiz.
stabilizer support tube, which then bolts to top tube cross member on the fuselage
at station 94.75. There are bushings in each of these tubes, whereupon
two AN-4-40A bolts secure the front horiz. support tube to the fuselage. The
plans state the distance from the top tube cross member on the fuselage to the
bottom of the horiz. stab support tube should be 1 and 3/16th of an inch.
On my project, this is only 1 inch because the bushings on the fuselage are 3/16"
too short. This affects the angle of incidence of the horizontal stab.
To increase this distance and obtain an angle of incidence closer to the 2 degrees
specified in the plans, is it okay to add some AN960 washers between the two
bushings? Have any of you done this? Do you think there would be structural
integrity issues?
Thanks in advance for any help.
