The melting point of aluminum is way below the >2000 F expected from a fire. So if there is a fire, this will happen: hole is melted in the aluminum, fiberfrax does not protect anything, resin is burned out from composite sheet of fuselage, toxic smoke enters the cabin. I have watched a lot of firewall burn tests, they are nasty even if performed outside. Direct exposure to the smoke in the cockpit must be avoided. The only way is a sealed firewall. A steel sheet protects from burn-through, fiberfrax provides some insulation to keep the temperature of the composite bulkead low enough to prevent it smoking, at least for a while. Mine see ms to have an aluminum one, but I MUST have something proven to be fire rat ed. My inspector suggests that a lot of glass planes used fibrefax on the f irewall which may suffice, and with the aluminum on top would be fine, howe ver, I can't seem to find anything in the manuals and logs describing any s pecific application. What did most of you do?=0A=0AThe standard acceptable firewall here is Stainless steel. My plan is to add a stainless layer over top of the aluminum one as it appears to be bonded in and I'd prefer not to remove it. Of course, if there is fibrefax behind as part of the original fuse kit then I'm good too...=0A=0AAny thoughts?=0AThanks=0AChris=0A=0A=0A =0A=0ARead this topic online here:=0A=0Ahttp://forums.matronics.com/viewtop - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Matt Dralle, List Admi ===== ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:17:56 AM PST US Subject: Re: Pulsar-List:Firewall test From: "rockford67" Ya, that's what I'm hearing now. I wonder if there are any link on Youtube to see some of these tests? Would make a compelling argument for changing to SS at the next opportunity! Thanks for your expertise!
