All's good so far. I'll do a longer test flight tomorrow but from here, looks like the problem is resolved. See you all in Lawrence. Jim _____ From: owner-pulsar-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-pulsar-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of pilot623 Sent: Saturday, August 24, 2013 8:13 PM Subject: Pulsar-List: Oil cooler woes Think back two years ago when I broke down in Searcy, AR with a busted oil cooler. Well, my cooler has again developed a leak but at least I'm at home. I pulled the cowls today in preparation for an oil change. I pulled the plane outside and ran the oil up to a nice 175 degrees, then pulled her back inside the shade of the hangar. After pulling the oil tank plug, I noticed a couple drops of fresh oil on the ground forward of where I was working and traced it to the forward fitting of the cooler. There was no sign of oil on the lower cowl so the failure happened during the engine run today. The nature of the failure is the same as last time and that perplexes me. I had added a solid hose support about 6" behind the failed fitting which eliminated any ability for the hose to move. Previously, it was able to move over it's ~20" length which allowed transmission of stresses to the oil cooler. The failure is radially about 1/2" around the forward side of the hex fitting where it joins the cooler. I'll try to have it welded by someone who knows what they're doing but in the meantime, I'm on the search for an Earl's 61002. As I found out two years ago, they no longer make that size and I have not found an exact replacement after searching a couple of hours this afternoon. Does anyone have an Earl's 61002 you would part with? I'm sure hoping to get this fixed and avoid having to cancel plans to attend the Lawrence festivities on Thursday.
