(Jim Fillman) ________________________________ Message 1 _____________________________________ Time: 12:27:41 PM PST US Subject: Pulsar-List: Popped Fuselage Flange, Seeking Advice From: "Yellowhammer" Dear Pulsar Owners, This morning as I was leaving for work, I went to rotate the fuselage upright ( I had it tilted while my tape was drying from last nights layup) to cover her up for the day and it dropped down and hit the support frame from the support sling stand and popped my front lower joining flange approximately 6 inches. Needless to say I was pretty upset with myself for such carelessness. On my way to work, which is a forty minute drive I had time to reflect on the mistake I made and wondered if it wasn't a blessing in disguise. If the flange popped loose with just a gentle bump such as it sustained, maybe I need to strengthen the joining seam inside and out. One must understand that the fuselage halves were not joined together by me. They were joined by the previous owner and had been sitting for 20 years or so in the slings. He also had the three inch piece of tape installed per instructions from the manual to help prevent popping the flange. That being said, I was shocked to find that it failed after such a minor drop of only six or so inches on the support beam under the sling. It did not hit the floor. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on the how to strengthen this area? Thanks once again for all your help, wisdom, and guidance!! Clyde -------- J.M. From: "Yellowhammer" Dear Pulsar Community, I want to give a hearty shout out of appreciation and thanks to Mr. Rick Thomason!! Mr Rick was kind enough to allow me to come see his Pulsar he built and has in his hangar in Picayune, Mississippi. We had a very good time fellow-shipping with one another and he provided me with ton's of wisdom on the Pulsar. He let me crawl all around it to look at things that I felt would be beneficial to my build process and I can't thank him enough! Before I was about to leave, he asked me if I had ever sat in a Pulsar before and I told him I had never even seen a Pulsar in real life much less sat in one! The only Pulsar I had seen was the one I was building and pictures of course. He instantly asked If I would like to go for a flight and of course I said YES SIR! I did not visit him with the expectation of flying in his machine and was completely humbled and grateful for the opportunity! That flight was wonderful! He even let me take the controls for a spell and I was excited to no end. In fact, words could never explain the gratitude I have for him taking the time out of his day to spend with me and take me up for a spin in his Pulsar! I am humbled and very appreciative of the kindness he showed to me. Mr Rick's Pulsar is gorgeous and it helped me tremendously to see what the final outcome should look like! That day is one that I will cherish forever and I rank it right up there with the first time I ever flew when I was just a kid! Pulsar's are very maneuverable, fast, sleek, and sexy to look upon!! THANKS MR RICK! YOU ARE A GENTLEMAN IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD! Sincerely and Very Respectfully, Clyde Oyler -------- J.M.
