Hey Rocket seatbelt and seat dudes:
1. Seat belts are a commodity in the car racing world. I spent $350.00+
on my hookers and now wish I would have gone cheap. When you are flying
the harness just does not effect comfort at all as far as I can tell. If
you need to sew on or modify the belts go to a sail maker or backyard
kids trampoline repair shop. Or maybe a shoe repair shop. I would think
that all modern synthetic threads are basically the same.
As for seats try a high performance go cart seat. They come in all kinds
of sizes and shapes. Just try to find one that doesn't go under your arm
pits too much.
Arm rests are what you ought to be thinking of when it comes to cockpit
comfort. After 2+ hours in my rocket my shoulders are tired of my arms
hanging at my sides.
Also, do a test fit on any seat to make sure your canopy is high enough.
When I built my HR2 I focused on the exterior profile of the canopy. I
think my canopy is lower than some as a result. Little did I know that
my torso was so long that I had little room for a seat cushion by the
time it was all together and I'm only 5' 10" tall.

Rocket Listers: I am needing some help in finding someone that can sew
up
some seat belts for me. I have some surplus military troupe belts for
Helios which I need to have modified for use in my project. I've tried
to
contact Rob Huntsinger at Pacific Aero with not success and I hear he
has
quit the seat belt business. Can anyone else suggest someone that might
be
able to help. I think that there are some special techniques and perhaps
thread that is needed to ensure sufficient strength once completed.
Anyone
have any ideas?
