Well now that Gummi Bear has all you boys with the high horsepower toys
ready to rock and roll through the sky, how many of you are going to go and
tear it up at RENO, I would hope that enough of the rocket guys could come
on over and attend the pylon school and then race in the 04 Championship Air
Races. Our ships are slow compared to the fast glass but we could go for the
bronze and have one hell of a race of our own! All these 250 knot planes
must be ready to leave all us boys tied to a tree! I have sent for the
paperwork and I am going to check and see if that last tree is still
standing at Stead. Bob N# 999RM AKA Red Rider, Hangar #13 ,High Sierra

FLASH - Mystery Rocket flies!!! After a long and trying 6 years in construction
my RV4/Harmon Rocket/F1 Rocket flies. This plane has been an on going project
that has turned out to be one of the best flying planes I have ever built and
flown.
I could not have done this without the help and expertise of Mark Fredericks. He
has helped me through some difficult construction mods such as canopy, F1 cowl,
and many other assemblies. I feel without Mark's help this one of a kind
project would have never been completed.
Thanks Mark for all the help and answering of many questions. Also, I want to
thank John Harmon for the great design he came up with.

Hey Fellas:
I can vouch for the fact that the racing stuff is more fun than...well, just
about anything I can remember. The Pylon Course (June) is mandatory, if you
want to run, and it's a hoot in itself! Max G on the course is about 1 1/2 - 1
3/4 if you do it right, so don't worry about greying out...pull more and you
only slow down.
For further entry information, contact Anita Curtis at: acurtis@airrace.org.
Be sure all your paperwork is up to date, and in your possesion, when you
arrive, and your liability insurance is in force. RARA arranges special rates at
one of the local hotels for the school, and busses will take you back and
forth.
Your normal insurance is OK for the school, but you will need race insurance
for the race itself, available thru Cannon Insurance. The race insurance was
$500 per ship this year.
If they get another 8-10 entries over this year (19 entries) there will be a
bronze class. each class needs 8 racers and 2 alternates, for a desired total
entry of 30 ships. Min qual speed is 200MPH around the course -- pretty easy
for our equipment.
The course is at about 5000'MSL, so max MP would be about 26", so it would be
difficult to hurt the engine at the available power settings. Fly it in,
race, and fly it home.
If I may paraphrase another: I'll be glad to see you there, unless you're
faster than me!
If a more favorable course is a flat-out straight run, then the Airventure
Cup is avaliable. Navigation is important there, along with a fairly accurate
deciphering of the winds aloft. And, gas is supplied....along with more sponsor
stickers than you can imagine!
Cheers
Mark
