(;-)) Thanks for your reply. I spoke to management at Hartzel and among many questions, I asked about the rumor I keep hearing about the 4 g limit on the Hartzel prop on the Rockets. He said that it is not a propeller limit but more of a crankshaft concern (I think he called it the prop flange). He further stated that since it is part of the engine, he cannot comment further since "they don't make engines." Bottom line, it is not the prop driving the rumor. Anyone know if it is really an engine problem/weakness? John Harmon, can you shed some light on this? Thanks Jim ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:52:41 AM PST US From: Hr2pilot@aol.com Subject: Re: Rocket-List: Hartzel props --> Rocket-List message posted by: Hr2pilot@aol.com Way on earth do you want to pull more than 4 gs? We did the G testing to 6+ and no problems, there are Rockets out there that rutenly hit 5-6 Gs and more and not lost the crank. This didn't change. I don't know where the F-1 Rocket mounts the cowl. However, the same MT Propeller and spinner is recommended for both. So it should be the same. I just talked with Hartzell. The earlier IO-540 engines had a thinner flange (0.38" thick) with holes, and it had some restrictions. The current crankshaft flange is 0.44" thick without extra holes drilled in the flange. There are no restrictions by Lycoming for this propeller flange. Unfortunately, this doesn't clarify what Hartzell said from Jim Stone's Email: "He said that it is not a propeller limit but more of a crankshaft concern (I think he called it the prop flange)." Unless I hear something different from MT Propeller, I would have to go with the practical experience of Kirby Chambliss with his MT Propeller on an IO-540 engine. I believe he pulls over 6 G's, normally. There is no G limit on the MT Propeller and Lycoming IO-540 engine. If you really have to push the limits, the maximum G limit will be limited by you, or the airframe. Whichever fails first. Personally, when I'm flying, I have to limit the airframe to 4 G's. Since I end up stressing the average 170 pound pilots seat structure to an equivalent 6 G's. (This really hurts the climb performance on my RV-3.) :-( Jim Ayers ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 04:48:45 PM PST US From: "C. I also did some soul searching, cuz' it's gonna take a lot of time & traveling, but I decided I'm gonna be tested as a donor. I just registered and now I wait to get an appointment to be tested. I gotta go up to Stanford Medical Center (it's the closest donor center to me) and I'll let you all know how it goes. I hope some other folks will consider taking the plunge, either donating $ or becoming a blood/marrow donor or both... ya'll know it's for good/deserving people. check out http://www.marrow.org/HELP/join_the_registry.html or www.transplants.org Take Care and Take Air my friends, Chuck ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 05:05:39 PM PST US From: "Ernest Hale" Subject: RE: Rocket-List: I made a donation & I'm registering as a Marrow donor --> Rocket-List message posted by: "Ernest Hale" I am going to join, it is a great cause and something I have been meaning to do for the last 6 months. Thanks for reminding me of one of the things I am supposed to do in 2004. -----Original Message----- From: owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of C.
