I'm thinking about the engine for my future rocket project. Will any of
the IO-540 series work, i.e., the C/D vs the A/B/K engines?
Thanks,
Jerry Carter

Hey Jerry:
You'll have to stick with the straight valve engines -- the slant valve units
are too heavy. If you're looking for a core, the 235HP fixed pitch motor
would be the cheapest, and you can adjust to the required specs during the O/H.
Cheers

Can't speak for the rest but I used a IO-540 J4A5. The book said it was the
same as the "C" model. However, I had to modify the firewall to make it
fit, fuel pump and mags hit the original wall.

I have the IO-540-C4B5 an everything fits good. Slight interference with
the fuel pump vent but the fuel pump modification is easy and clearance is
great now. I don't have mags so I don't know if there would have been
interference there.
