I have posted three pictures on Chip Gibbons site. The first is my latest
governor cable attach bracket. This version uses an idea that Jim Winnigs
suggested regarding the use of a U bolt to hold the cable. It works great
and is much easier to fabricate than the more traditional slot approach.
The second picture is of the forward part of the plenum that Wes King and
I have built for his plane. It features a smoother transition from the
inlets to the plenum area. This is time consuming but very closely mimics
the flow achieved by the premolded fibreglass plenums.
The third picture is of a scaffold that I have build over the wing
of the plane. I have always found it difficult to work on the plane at this
stage without sliding off the wing. This simple fixture will also save a
lot of wear and tear on the wing skins and canopy rails.

      Tom,
Please tell me you are going to provide a nice plenum kit. Or, how
about just a baffle kit. Come on pleeeeese.
I'm working the attach flange for the cowl. I put off doing it until I
was sure of the attach method. This is a time consuming task.

I just tried to view your new pics at Chip Gibbons web site and I was
unable to get into the builders only section. I signed the log book
over a month ago asking for login info but it never came. Do I need a
      secret handshake to get in?
      Thanks,
      Jim

Geez, give him a break Jim. I for one like to know things that are "Rocket-Relevant",
after the purpose of this list is the dissemination of info like this.
I have seen much less relevant info make it on here and run like a case of verbal
      diarrhea.

      Thanks for being rational, Jim.
Wayne has good products at what appears to be very reasonable prices which
can only benefit the community. Wayne, why don't you get your site published
on the Commander list also? Tell them about you being allowed to work your
business here. The Commander folks are continuously building and rebuilding
to keep the Commander fleet in the air and they surely can use a good
      product.

      Hi All,

I caught some flak for promoting Sportcraft wingtip NAV antenna on the
RV-list a few years back. It goes with the territory when trying to introduce

something different, or new, or not normally unknown.

For some reason, having an optimum functioning NAV antenna mounted inside the
wingtip seemed to get accepted (after a couple years) and the people on the
RV-list that have installed this antenna recommend it now.

      Jim Ayers
RV-3 N47RV Sportcraft vertical stabilizer (VS) COM antenna
HR2 sn 269 RV-4 VS with Sportcraft VS COM antenna, wingtip NAV antenna,
wingtip marker beacon antenna and wingtip ELT antenna. (Not to mention the
installed flush mounted transponder antenna in the bottom of the fuselage.)
(I could have installed the GPS antenna under the cowl, if the cowl wasn't
      carbon fiber.)

      Weav,

It all depends on what you are doing with the placards. There is not enough
space or time to list all the variables that could go into making the
placards. So the short answer is to give us a call and we can ask you a few
questions to get you started down the right path. At one time I had put all
this information on our web site and it made potential customer's head spin
with so many options and not knowing how one product would be different than
another. Notice I didn't say better than another? It's how it's being used
and how the customer likes a certain look. The FAA only cares that it is
legible at arms length and permanent. As for the vinyl, we only use the
premium grade material with a few dozen color choices. All we need is the
size, text and color to give you a quote.

      Mr. Stone,
I'm not sure why you bothered to comment on this, since you obviously have no need
for this service. (I realize there are FAA requirements for labeling fuel
tanks that you may personally chose to ignore). Anyhow, what's wrong with this
forum for exploring areas that may be of interest to the list members? I,
for one, am very interested in knowing about any and all options that could help
me get my ship legally in the air. (I'm also curious who appointed you to
speak for the list, since you've chosen to chastise Mr. Cahoon in our name?)

MY BAD, please read. I goofed earlier and suggested that you contact www.seatheater.com to get info on heated seats. They aren't equipped to handle the calls from the general public, only from distributors and authorized vendors. Please don't call them. They are engineers, and set up to handle volume sales, not curiosity calls.

Now, having admitted my boo-boo, you can get their products through various dealers
right now and I am working with them to become an authorized distributor
      in the future. Stay tuned.

If you'd like more info today, please give me a call. I've learned a bunch already!

      Hi Konrad,

The VS antenna is a standard product from Sportcraft antenna's. However, a
fairing has to be made to mount the antenna on the VS.

I've attached pictures of my RV-3, and of the antenna in an RV-4 VS fairing.

The GPS antenna is not affected by Plexiglas or fiberglass. The antenna can
be mounted under the windshield, or under the cowl.

The GPS antenna is affected by conductive materials like aluminum, and carbon
      fiber cowls.

Mounting the transponder antenna on the bottom of the engine has been done on
an RV-6. But the antenna should be mounted lower than the firewall to get a
good signal behind the aircraft. (The RV-6 has a tunnel that hangs down below

      the firewall.)
Mounting the normal wire transponder antenna on the belly of the Rocket is
still a good compromise for optimum reception and minimum drag. (In the Los
Angeles area, I want to be seen.)
It is a lot of extra work to install all of the doublers for the fuselage
      flush mounted transponder antenna.
(Doublers fabricated and installed in accordance with HR2 Structure Repair
      Manual.)
      :-)

      Jim Ayers
PS I sent this the Rocket list just in case someone else was interested, also.

Well, well. You all know the old adage that there is nothing new under the

      I was wrong, huh?

Well, well. You all know the old adage that there is nothing new under the
sun. I thought the 'hot seat' that a Rocket provides would be sufficient.
      I was wrong, huh?

I just finished reading "Unlocking The Sky" about Wright vs Curtiss. I
celebrate what the Wright Bros. were able to do HOWEVER from what I have
read they seem to have been from the ME, ME, ME generation. Glenn Curtiss
seems to be like the vast majority of RV & Rocket builders. Mr. Chip Gibbons
sounds more like a third Wright brother.
With that said I offer my assistance, ideas, photo postings to all EXCEPT
Mr. Gibbons. I hereby rescind any previous approval to the use postings of
any nature made be me to ONLY Mr. Gibbons which includes but not limited to
MY wing tip lockers, MY tire inflation modification, MY cockpit vents, MY
rear rudder peddles etc. Everyone EXCEPT Mr. Gibbons may use, copy, display
or transmit MY ideas as they see fit.
I don't go where I'm not wanted so Mr. Gibbons can rest assured that I will
not attempt to contact nor view ANY of his web site data. I think that Van,
John and Mark have set a very high mark for each of us to strive toward. Mr.
Gibbons (IMNSHO) on the other hand can keep his data and his head up tight
and locked. KABONG Do Not Archive

Some time ago I was reading in the rocket-list that there was a guy building
a Rocket in Maui. I am going to be on the island for a few weeks and if he
is still into the project and doesn't mind a visit I would like to have a
look see. He can respond to my email address. Thanks.

      Jim,

That would be me. Unfortunately, I moved the project to the mainland a
      month ago.

      MY, MY, MY

Jack, you and I need to talk.

The last time I looked at the FAA web site,
the owner of N561FS is one Thomas L. Gummo :-)

I built the first wing locker which was copied from an RV-4.
The cockpit vents very copied from Dan Evelyn.
Ron Caraway designed and built the rear rudder petals.

If you are going to use the MY word, you might want to give credit to those
      who deserve it.

Which is the point of this list and the other RV lists.

The best thing you can do with a GOOD IDEA is to pass it on.

IMITATION IS THE SINCEREST FORM OF FLATTERY.

Your right, N561FS is totally owned by one Tom Gummo. The lockers, vents and wheel
pant modifications were posted by myself on the lists. Have not listed the
rear rudder peddles yet. I was not attempting to grab any of the glory but rather
to shun and shame Mr. Gibbons. JACK
"WE" also have an oil door that we should post for use by all.

Do Not Archive I've been properly chastised.
