--> Rocket-List message posted by: "pcondon" <pcondon@mitre.org> ..........................................A Velocity over rotated landing at Sun-N-Fun and hit the prop before going around. It was determined that there were no spanwise cracks, and the propeller diameter was greater than the minimum allowed length. The fix was to trim all three blades to the same length, and paint the tips..................................... Jim, How was this determined so quickly ?? S-N-F was just last week or so. How can one determine the true nature of a strike and subsequent damage to wood in the blade, the mount at the root of the wood blade and the hub itself?? A assessment of the damage this fast (in time) may indeed be a "in field" fix to get the Velocity home. Is it indeed the long term fix as well ??

--> Rocket-List message posted by: LesDrag@aol.com The pilot of the Velocity that had the problem came to the MT Propeller booth while I was there. The pilot said he hit the propeller when he over rotated during a landing/go around at SNF. He came around and landed without incident on the second landing. Sudden stoppage would not seem to be an issue here. The MT Propeller USA supervisor was also at the MT booth. He went out and inspected the propeller for the extent of the damage. I understood that he verified the damaged area was outside of the minimum propeller diameter, and recommended the appropriate repair. I don't know the specific details of the damage to the propeller. I didn't see it myself. I was under the impression that this would be a permanent repair. Please understand the most knowledgeable MT Propeller employee in the USA inspected the damage, and made the recommendation. Not something you can get just anywhere, or anytime.
